Are we finally going to see a challenge to Fortuner?

I doubt it.............the Fortuner has a good advantage in Thailand, the name Toyota!!

I read a review in a UK mag about the new Chevrolet, and they didn't rate so high.....I will find the review and post the link.

With a nice set of wheels its a good looking motor, lets hope it's as good as it looks, in the UK test it's just a 2 litre diesel that was tested, I think Thailands model will be more powerful to compete with Fortuner.

It's just a reskinned and rebadged MU-7

It does not look like a MU-7. If it was a reskin the doors would be the same shape. They are one of the most expensive parts on a car to engineer. It also looks to be a monocoque chassis as oposed to ladder frame. Should be much better to drive on the road.

Having spent time behind the wheel of both the Optra and Zafira, I was not overly impressed with them. The driving characteristics of either of them is not on par with Toy and Honda, particularly the Zafira which felt like an accident waiting to happen at the first emergency maneuver.

I only hope that the Captiva is a much better performing machine.

Well, I suspect that the Captiva will not handle as well as the Optra (Korean) or Zafira (German, GM). Optra and Captiva are both Korean as far as I know. Besides the Captiva is a SUV, so I wouldn't expect the driving dynamics to be similar to sedan cars.

I think people who go for SUVs are not looking for nice handling as much as they are looking for an image. If it's built here and priced in the same ballpark as CR-V, I pity Honda. The CR-V is really ugly, and they are already beaten out of the market by Toyota Fortuner.

Chevrolet is GMs "budget" brand, and although GM have been sticking the Chevy badge on all manner of things, from Isuzu trucks, to V6 Holdens, to their newly acquired budget Korean cars, the bottom line is that it's an American brand. And Thais will buy into that. I think it'll sell well. (IF it's built here and IF it's 1.2 million baht or less)
