Obtaining a work permit from a U.S. 30-day stay

Featured Replies

Hey there, I'm in a bit of a predicament and I could really use some advice.

I flew in to Thailand today from the U.S., using the 30-day stay available to all U.S. citizens flying into the country.

Here's the thing - I'd like to get a teaching job but I'm wondering if:

A ) I'll be able to get a work permit considering that I do not have a tourist visa or any kind of special visa allowing me to be here.

B ) I'll be able to get a job and get all of the non-immigrant b paperwork through in time before the 30 days is up.

I will note that I am very qualified as I graduated with very good grades from a top school in the states, in case that affects B at all.

Am I out of luck with teaching here this go-round, or is it still possible to make the dream happen?

Thank you in advance.

A work permit can be applied for with a visa exempt entry but it cannot be issued until you get a non-b visa.

If you will be teaching you will not need the work permit to get a non-b visa at a nearby embassy or consulate. Once you have a job and have the paperwork form your employer you can apply for the non-b visa.

If you don't have enough time you can apply for a 30 day extension of the 30 day entry at an immigration office for a fee of 1900 baht.

thought the application for the Work Permit had to be made and a receipt required to get the Non Imm B Visa?

Also to the OP/upcoming Teacher, please tell me what this is meant to mean "in case that affects cool.png at all".

Thanks a lot for the quick responses. Sounds like I'm still in good shape to find a job here and do it on time.

beano2274, sorry for the accidental emoji. That was meant to be b ) , but when I type the b and the ) together it makes the emoji. I edited my post to avoid further confusion.

A work permit application is not required to get a non-b visa for teaching. See 2.4 here. http://www.mfa.go.th/main/en/services/4908/15388-Non-Immigrant-Visa-%22B%22-(for-Business-and.html

Many MOE offices require the Non B in passport first, before accepting W.P. application.
