Cambodia urges tourism operators to accept Chinese currency

Featured Replies

Cambodia’s Tourism Ministry has started encouraging tourism businesses to accept Chinese yuan, as part of a drive to make the country more attractive to Chinese visitors.
The Cambodia Daily reported Hor Sarun, Cambodia’s Secretary of State for Tourism, as confirming the move on Friday.

“We have been advising tourism establishments like restaurants, accommodations, entertainment venues and exchange shops to facilitate payments in yuan in order to make it easy for Chinese tourists to spend in our country,” he told the newspaper.

Cambodia’s official currency is the riel, but the majority of transactions are conducted in US dollars. The country welcomed approximately 700,000 Chinese visitors in 2015, but is aiming to almost triple this figure to two million by 2020.

ThaiVisa, c'est aussi en français

ThaiVisa, it's also in French

Instead of keeping them away, they makle the same mistake as the Thais did... doors wide open for the quick cash.

Regretting tomorrow...

I agree Deli. They don't add anything to the tourist economy. What money they do spend is with Chinese vendors. Screw em.

...brilliant...a step up...!!!

Now that the yuan has been accepted by the IMF as part of its international currency basket along with the USD, euro, yen, etc. it makes sense to accpet yuans to facilitate chinese tourism in Cambodia. Thailand began accepting yuans last year for SET transactions and commercial transactions.

The Chinese want only one thing and that is control of any country they do business with. They have a huge population and they know they will not have the resources in the future to keep them complaint and happy and thus their own people are a threat to the Communist Party. They seek out food and fuel from wherever they can gain a foothold and to enslave countries economically.

They are a clear and present danger to the World and need to be contained whenever possible. Cambodia is being absorbed into the Chinese orbit and it will end in a loss of national sovereignty. The United States is in so much debt to China that it will eventually become a national security issue. Thailand better smarten up and stop accommodating the Chinese and selling their souls for the next tourist Baht.

And how is this different than US policy which attempts to control the natural resources of other countries by keeping those countries in debt and installing easily controlled thugs and their entourages as heads of state? The US courts, and only the US courts, even allow vulture capitalists like Paul Singer to purchase forgiven sovereign debt and then place liens against a country to prevent them from engaging in international business until the debt is repaid to the vulture capitalist. And then there are the German banks enslaving Greece until foolish loans made by the German banks are paid in full. China is no different, just possesses a different style.

Next time you take a vacation to a Thai beach resort may I suggest taking a copy of John Perkins "Confessions of an Economic Hit Man" for a good read.

We will not sign the ASEAN document on the South Sea Ocean dispute but we want your money to repatriate.

They will own the land as well soon with these greedy nations who can only see today
