Strange Bugs

Featured Replies

Hi,

in my house I found a couple of those strange bugs on the walls, especially the bathroom. Thought it was gecko sh1t in the first place until I noticed that they were moving. They are about 1 cm long, see the paper clip for reference...

Anybody an idea what it is?

It appears to be a cocoon of some sort. If you notice at the end (lower end) there is a caterpillar or worm emerging. No clue what kind it is though.

It seems you home has been invaded by the famous earwick worms (oreccio langas). I would immediately fumigate and search the house for any additional critters. They are drawn to the odor of ear wax, thus their western name. If you have had any excessive earwax within the last 30 days, immediately seek medical aid. Seems they go from ear to ear, even if there is brain matter in between. :o

:o hahaha, scare the poor guy why don't you? Earwigs do not bore in to peoples heads.

Now I'm totally paranoid, running around the house studying every gingko dropping for hours on end, waiting to see if it moves. :o Thanks a lot, guys.

As they are basically in every house, that would explain a lot here in Thailand...

Indeed, there is some sort of caterpillar inside. They are quite fast moving and when disturbed, they hide in that cocoon thingy. Guess I will put one in a jar and see what will come out of it...stay tuned...

i discovered them around my house too :D initially in the wooden part of the house...bedroom floors and such, but now I notice them also elsewhere on the concrete walls. cant find the source though, so not sure how to deal with them. more info on this would be great raro!! might be some kind of an outbreak...you arent my neighbour are you :o

I see them since 2 years at least

have they done any damage thouugh? at my place they sometime start to smell...cant describe it...but kinda makes things smell old and dusty? particularly if i leave plastic bottle in my bedroom for longer than 1 day!! very annoying.

try replacing plastic bottles with beer bottles. Works fine for me...

Are there any permanent pools in your bathroom where these possibly worm-like dudes can live? I had something similar until I zapped a hollow in the floor regularly.

no, infact I first started to see them in my bedroom :o theres less of them there now, they appear more especially when Ive been away from home for a while (one week trips)

but as said..Im starting to see them also in other parts of the house...although less in the bedroom now hmmmmm

and raro seems like Im finding them to be more of a nuisance than you :D

ahh now I know...if Ive been away for a week, come back and the room smells kinda like moth!!!

so anyone know what they are? and how to deal with them? bring in the expert who-do-you-call-them-pesticides?

Has anyone seen the invasion of the body snatchers - look like pods to me :o

sorry for resurrecting this old thread, but those bugs are still around. Ocasionally on walls and I learned to ignore them. Over the weekend, though I moved some furniture around and they are hiding in masses behind shelves and stuff. Now I'm really curious what they are.... :)

They are 'case bearing moth larvae', totally harmless just knock em down with a broom and sweep em up. They are everywhere

You're my man! Thanks a lot, one more mystery solved! Sucked them up with the vacuum cleaner as a pre-emptive measure. Harmless or not, I don't like them. :)

Do you have pets?

The larvae eat pet hair (no kidding)

Yum.

yes, I have cats...on a second thought I should not have exterminated them...would have spared me further vacuuming for the cats hair :)
