Any one have an idea how I can access my home ip camera via the internet

So I just purchased this ip pan and tilt security camera

Cam1_zpspxkkplvl.jpg

I then downloaded both these Android apps

1. Eye4

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=vstc.vscam.client&hl=en_GB

2. VsCam

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=object.vstc3.client&hl=en

After setting up the ip camera on both the above Android apps ( I use VsCam the most ) , I can now access the ip camera over my local WiFi home network on my Android mobile phone , without any problems and it seems to work very well.

I have searched on how to access my new ip camera on the internet using a browser ( Firefox ) but so far ive not been able to find out exactly how to do it via the internet ( when away from home ) .

Ive had a look at the ip camera manufactures web site , but its not that helpful , and I cant see any options on the Android apps .

Any one have an idea how I can access my ip camera via the internet when I’m away
from home ?

( I am using a Mac computer )

How is your camera hooked to your internet? ... is it just plugged in to the wall for electricity .. then hooked to your internet via Wifi?

Or is it hooked to your computer? Can you access it even if your computer is off?

Do you know its IP address?

I have never hooked up an IP camera .. but, from the research I just did .. it looks like you have to forward the port in your router...

and then get a service to support hosting it on the web?

.... hmmmmm ...

If it is just hooked to your computer (do you have a spare computer in your house?) .. or if your computer at home can access the IP Cam's picture

you can leave your computer on ...

and set up Google Remote Desktop on the computer .,..

and then access it through Google anywhere you want ... and run your computer as if you are sitting in front of it.

... I use this program all the time to fix my Mother's computer without having to go over there :-)

Google has an App at well

If your computer at home can see the camera ... then you just log in to your computer using the Google Remote Desktop App

and see it from there ... and operate it from there ...

Might be a lot easier .. and cheaper... since you would not have to have some service like .. DYNDNS.com

??? not sure what that is .. but, that is the only way I see to hook it up .. something like that?

costs $$$$$ as well

I would use the Google App ..

Hello,

This Camera should have an IP address which you need to know and which is static.

Then you can do a port forward on the router which connects your to the Internet, but iis this a good Idea?

There are some website where you can see many open webcams in internet. So if you do as I wrote, mean everybody could see at your webcam.

Maybe you should put something between which takes care of security, that not everybody can check your webcam that easy. A cheap and nice solution is maybe Synology, buy a cheap NAS which comes in with Webcam support :) I never tried it yet myself.

Maybe there are even better solutions from people who already have a setup with a webcam over Internet :)

I'm guessing it's in the manual on the CD but based on their English that might not help.

How to achieve viewing in distance.Every ip camera made by VStarcam is equipped with its own domain name, that solve thoroughly the problems such as easy dropping when using peanut shells and network breaking, etc.Connection speed, save not only charges, but also time and energy for users, especially for users who are not familiar with computer operation.

In remote monitoring, users have to do a port mapping through a router, and its operation manual is shown in the CD.

Do port mapping to ensure it can be viewed normal on LAN.There is a remote address which is equipped with the device itself at the bottom right corner on the searching, such as http://demo.ipcam.so.Users just need key in the remote address on the website, and achieve remote monitoring through the Internet.

That is the easiest way, but as i also told before in my post, with this everyone who know this IP can see the Webcam in internet. Because of this setup so many Webcams are public for everyone. But if you don't care that someone else could have a look on this webcam, then this is the solution

Thanks for the advice thumbsup.gif

The camera came with a power adapter ( 230V ac in / 5V DC 2 Amp out ) that plugs into a wall power socket , once the camera has been set up to recognize the local WiFi signal ( computer not required for camera set up ) , and the camera is powered up then if its within range of my home WiFi signal , I can see the camera view on my Android mobile phone if its all so within range of my home WiFi signal by using one of the Android apps .

So at the moment I do not use my Mac computer to access the ip camera , only my Android mobile phone

I'm not to concerned about the ip camera being accessible , I'm now wondering if there's an application I can install on my Mac laptop that will allow me some how to access the ip camera , with out having to sort out the router / ports / etc .

Google Remote Desktop ... and access it remotely through your computer.

If you you do not want to leave your PC on for access ...

And you do not care if it is open for all to see..

Google ... free ip camera web hosting. .. there are many sites that will do the hosting for you.

.. you might lose the tilt/move features of your camera though. .

Example of a free hosting site ..

http://www.noip.com/support/knowledgebase/how-to-setup-a-webcam-and-access-it-from-anywhere/

I have no experience with this company .. but there are many like it

Good luck
