Brer Fox
The place looks like it has been there for some time. A "tip-off" from someone who wants to add a new hotel to their chain. Like those 29 speedboats and 53 buses acquired earlier from the Chinese Tranlee Travel Co in Phuket which would surely now be in the hands of a new Thai owner. Someone is in line to acquire this hotel at a bargain basement price; after some paper shuffling.

Happy Grumpy
How did I know it would involve the Chinese. Only Thais are allowed to make money and profit in Thailand.

cmsally
Tourist police and immigration are not the ones who usually check for hotel licenses.
sahibji
why not have a random check on regular basis on all the establishments to ensure legal conformity. of course an enforcement team will be needed but the results produced would far outweigh the investment in human resources. the chances of detecting undesirable and sub standard practices will also be greater. End of story Yes, exactly the offender regardless of any related graft and corruption did not have his house in order. WHY ? I suspect it was to maximise profit and avoid taxes and associated expenses. Bury the bastards.

You need correct fire precautions such as a set of emergency stairs. If the building was not correctly configured it would not be licensed. So easier to forget about it and crack on. Seismic
Lets get back to what this is about, You cannot run a Hotel or Bar without the appropriate licences. End of story Read the article, why are tourist police and immigration police checking hotel licences ??, because the establishment is being run by a non-Thai. There are hundreds of bars and hotels and nightclubs that dont have the proper licences (remember Santika ??). But for some strange reason they continue to operate. natway09
I read the article Seismic & understand it. It does not make it right does it ?. I repeat no licence , no can operate. As for the non Thai operative,, if that is so ,,, in itself is illegal, must be 51% Thai owned

CMKiwi
I suspect as has already been mentioned, an envious person or opposition to this guesthouse has seen a opportunity to exploit. Agreed that no matter who you are you should have 'your ducks in a row'. You're a bit stupid if you don't. ..particularly in this country. Cause if you don't have your act sorted out there are plenty of people waiting in the wings ready to knife you in the back. Live and learn huh? THAIJAMES
You would think the licensing authorities could easily check their database to determine if an address has a license to operate a hotel. You would also think that such licensing authority would have an enforcement person drive around Chiang Ma checking if new hotels have licenses.
