BANGKOK:-- The board of Ramkhamhaeng University said the school will investigate photos of the freshman initiation activities by the student group “Ram Langsuan,” after photos of young students engaged in alleged abuse were heavily criticized online.

Facebook page Anti-Sotus, which is a group that is against freshman initiation rituals (called “hazing” in the U.S. or “rub nong” in Thai) shared photos of the questionable activities. Among those are young students rolling around in mud and sand, brushing their teeth with chili paste and painfully sitting on their toes.

In one photo, a shirtless male student was being stepped on by an older man. There is a hint of what looks like a machete at the top of the photo.

It's not initiation.

It's ritualised bullying and abuse.

It's not initiation.

It's ritualised bullying and abuse.

In 19th century England fagging and physical abuse were rife in most of the top public schools. One of the reasons they invented rugby at Rugby school.

As a 'farang netizen' I'm shocked and appalled!

I'm at my computer now so angry. How very dare they!

I'm lonely.

Big spray on social media by Thais over the young couple involved in a call of nature in an alley, yet this crap is rampant, clean up your act Thailand.

But....but......

Then why not check out boy's town in Pattaya? Saturday nights have a special offer, 'buy one get one free'.

As for the hazing, a man having his nipples sucked maybe torture to some, but to others it's foreplay.

But....but......

butt! You should check out 'all you can eat' at the banana club in Sukumvit. As for hazing students, is that free or do you have to pay extra?

I came across these pictures too.

Is this something that we are seeing or hearing for the first time?? This is the same drama every year for all the freshers at universities.

No harm here all good builds character good to see this ritual here. The rugby boys rituals are a step too far in uk. Carrots.

How many times have we head the ' will investigate ' line and how many times do the uni authorities manage to explain it away and of course they know nothing.

That whole rugby origins legend is a myth. Picking up the ball and running with it was a traditional aspect of football as it was at the time.

The thing that finally caused the two football codes to diverge was the forward pass.

Football allowed it. Rugby {yes, I know it's also football} didn't.

In Thai it is called "rub nong". Which one is Nong and why are they having all the fun! When I went to uni way back when, I was " forced" to drink until I was sick and then left to sleep in my own vomit. Come to think of it that was uni life most of the time!

Yeah right, it's always worse somewhere else eh?

Here it's perfect and no harm at all.

You did read the part of the story where a student was killed two years ago during this harmless fun didn't you?

Just in case you missed it:

''Two years ago, a 16-year-old boy was dumped at the hospital, where he later died, after participating in a beachside hazing ritual. In the same year, a female student at Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University reported a sadistic candlewax burning tradition.''

our daughter goes to uni next year and I know if they try do any of this sh*t on her I will come down on them like a ton of bricks. This sort of crap is beyond a joke and as already stated lives put at risk/taken, my wife was almost drowned when she was hazed at uni when thrown into a canal after she told them she couldnt swim, luckily one person realized she was drowning and pulled her out of the water. These idiots need the law and the universities to stop it by having anyone that organizes/does anything banned from the university and losing any work towards their degrees as well as heavy fines, maybe if their future and their finances are hit they will think twice before doing this stupid crap.

American Universities have managed to reduce most of the cruel sadistic hazing rituals.

Now, hazing has become more of a porn fantasy with many reluctant participants being coerced into sexual acts and recorded for prosperity.

Be careful what you wish for.

I wish for no hazing.

i wish for those coercing others to take part to be gaoled for assault/sexual assault/whatever.

I wish for people to stop apologising for the sadistic rituals practiced here.

Careful enough, do you think?
