Urgent advice on doing visa run via KL Airport

Featured Replies

WP/visa ended today and I need to stay on for a month. So I am doing a visa run to KL to return on a visa exempt entry.

Just arrived at KL from BKK and the immigration queue is horrendous.

I have decided to return to BKK without going through immigration.

I have a British and Irish passport, old Thai visa on British passport.

So I think I should re-enter Thailand on the Irish passport as they may want to see a Malaysian immigration stamp in the British passport.

Would wait and do it the formal way. Pass immigration, turn around and go back on your plane. Have a feeling not going through immigration will spell disaster!

Technically the Airport is a 'neutral' area (at least in most countries and for most people). Staying within the airport does not mean you have officially entered the country. In order to enter Malaysia you have to pass through Immigration.

Returning to Thailand without a stamp showing you entered another country may raise questions.

You would also be the wrong side to clear security and get a boarding card.

I doubt it will go down to well even if you make the departure gate.

OP how did it go?

Although risky, if you already have a boarding card, what the OP planned usually works out OK. I know of multiple people who have successfully done this. I think the main thing Thai immigration want to see is evidence that you entered using the flight claimed. That is not to say that an IO could not object if inclined to do so.

as long as you have both boarding passes to show to Thai Immigration upon return you will be fine.

I did not want to risk having problems so I used my Irish passport with no problems. Thank you for the replies.
