I would be grateful if anyone can clarify this situation,as I've had two conflicting bits of advice.

My retirement visa expires in early October and I know I can renew early (late Sept).

Unfortunately I need to return to the UK on 30th September for an emergency issue . I may be away for several weeks,

My question is: If I obtain a re-entry permit at the early  time I renew my retirement visa, does the re-entry permit 'flip over' to the new date in 2017 of my retirment extension, or, would the permit expire on the actual date of  my renewal in 2016.?

As I said, I've  had two conflicting views and would welcome a response from  anyone who might have done this.

Thank you

a fresh re-entry permit is obtained after you obtain a fresh yearly extension, and the expiry date of the re-entry permit is matched to the expiry date of the extension

You apply for the re-entry permit as soon as the new extension of stay has been granted. That way the re-entry permit will be valid for the term of the new extension.
