Manassas
Just switched to the new TOT fiber optic. My down speed went from 3 to 30mbps when I test the connection. However, web pages seem to load more slowly than the old 3mbps connection. I have googled around and seen general suggestions about changing DNS etc. But I'm guessing this is some configuration issue unique to TOT. Any techies out there with suggestions? lostinisaan
You should read this and give it a try. : http://www.fixedbyvonnie.com/2013/11/high-bandwidth-internet-connection-slow/#.V6LiXLh97cs
KhunBENQ
Can you reveal/give examples for slow loading websites? Which region/neighborhood do you live? I am afraid an answer will need some debugging like speedtests. To start easy: a very simple one button speedtest to a German server. It's in German language but not any difficult to understand. Push the blue "Test starten" (Start test) button and wait for the test to finish. http://avm.de/nc/service/zack-der-speedtest-fuer-ihre-breitbandverbindung/ What are the results for: "Pingzeit" (ping time) "Downloadrate" "Uploadrate" "Jitter" I am on ToT fibre and currently get: 245,90 ms 20,295 MBit/s 2,537 MByte/s 3,989 MBit/s 0,499 MByte/s 0,72 ms "," being decimal separator. My nominal speed is 20 / 10 Mbit/s (recently changed to a cheaper package). Edited August 4, 2016 by KhunBENQ
Crossy
Just for comparison, on Ben's site I get:- 238.7 ms 23.200 Mbits 2.000 Mbits 3.24 ms ToT fibre, Northern BKK, mine is the 25/3 package.
kkerry
I know it's a ToT thread but the Zack test doesn't like True. On True Fiber 30/3 package. 3.08 MBits down 3.94 MBits up Testing on Ookla with a Berlin server (first time). 18.95 down 3.36 up Ookla Bangkok server 31.55 down 3.51 up Fortunately my daily user experience doesn't feel like a lowly 3 Mbits when surfing overseas sites or streaming content. (yes, I'm aware Oookla results are not always well regarded)

(yes, I'm aware Oookla results are not always well regarded) Often content just seems to be "overseas" but is indeed locally mirrored/cached in the SEA region. Applies to almost all the big players (all Google related/youtube, Facebook, Microsoft, all the big file/picture hosters, news networks etc. pp.). Thaivisa comes from Singapore (at least until recently). Keyword "content delivery network". The OP seems to have lost interest...
Manassas
TOT service technician came by and put in a new router. Seems to have helped quite a bit. The article on latency explains some of the engineering involved. Still, based on increase in speed I would expect pages to load more quickly. On the other hand, my Samsung smart TV connects via wifi, and I can now stream news and movies off the net with no problem.
frodo77
How does it connect from the router to your PC? Cable or wifi? I ordered the 20/10 fibre to u package. At present there is a phone socket in the wall that was installed when the building was put up. This is where my present router is connected and wifi from there to PC. Today the cowboy contractors came and wanted to drill a new hole in the wall. I sent them away. Surely it is possible to run the new cable where the present cable/wiring is? I just did the zack test. Ihre Pingzeit: 20,39 ms Ihre aktuelle Downloadrate: 5,486 MBit/s 0,686 MByte/s Ihre aktuelle Uploadrate: 56,160 MBit/s 7,020 MByte/s Jitter: 0,40 ms Cannot understand why the upload rate is much faster than the download rate. Manassas
The fiber cable comes in on its own cable straight to the router. I connect via wifi. Page loads are ok but would expect more. Thar article about latency etc seems to explain it. Lots of potential solutions are out there, seems to be a common problem. But most are beyond my technical know-how. I've never seen upload stronger than download. That is odd.
KhunBENQ
The result from post #8 is indeed hard to explain/strange. In such cases repeated tests should be run. I just did a test from my site and also not quite usual: download and upload both close at 5,515 MBit/s and 5,186 MBit/s. AND a repeated test brings a similar inverse result as in post #8 (5 to 13)??? The values are worse than at other times of day which is not too surprising. But it really smells like some kind of throttling at this time. Edited August 12, 2016 by KhunBENQ
