Woman injured after a smart phone in her pant accidentally caught fire

 

 

BANGKOK: A woman suffered burns when a smart phone accidentally caught fire while it was in one of the pockets of her jean on Friday afternoon.

 

The victim was identified as Ms Rungrat Thiromsook, 19, who lives in a house in Village 7, Tambon Nong Ngu Louem, Nakhon Pathom’s Muang district.

 

A worker at a machine shop near Wat Thung Ree, Ms Rungrat later told officials that she was sitting in the shop when the phone in her jean’s pocket vibrated as if a message came. But, she said, she felt it was hot in the pocket and thought about getting the phone out of the pocket.

 

Then she saw smoke emitting from the pocket but still could not grab the phone as she felt the heat in the pocket became unbearable. So she screamed for help from her co-workers nearby who rushed to her rescue and managed to rip open the pocket, resulting in the burning phone to fall out.

 

Ms Rungrat was then rushed to Sanam Chan hospital where she was treated for burns on her four right fingers, the left thumb, right side of the stomach and a leg.

 

Later on, the director of Suphan Buri office of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission, Mr Pongsakorn Kaewchannua visited the victim at her house to make an enquiry.

 

He said that it was the responsibility of the NBTC to look into the case and to look after the consumer when there was such a case. He added that he would inform the NBTC head office in Bangkok to contact the dealer of the smart phone in question in order to claim compensation for the victim.

The director of the NBTC's Suphan Buri office seems like an efficient sort of guy.

Although, I don't think the NBTC hierarchy will be too pleased that he has committed them to looking after consumers' rights!

Cant blame the iphone. I would get hot, possibly breathe fire and explode if in her pants also.

But not that simple, mobile shops will tell you it's genuine and they know it's not. And most folks have no idea how to tell whether it's real or fake.

But unlike your banal imaginary stories this girl suffered multiple burns that did need treatment.  Completely necessary treatment.

Ask an American. The term 'pant' is often used to describe a pair or trousers, chinos, jeans or similar apparel. My neighbour used to say 'Gee. that's a fine pant'

Yes apparently if you cut one leg off, the attire is known as pant and not pants.

Any sane being knows how to treat most non fatal injuries with a leisurely stroll to the pharmacy. Beyind belief.

 

Played in a football match here where local mummies boy got wacked in the face by the ball. A normal person would take a moment then get on with the game. Not this clown. Called an ambulance and had the 'kudos' of being rushed to the hospital. Big poof, returned to a hero's welcome just before full time. Pathetic nancy boy.

Th phone was using Firefox to access her Hotmail account and it all got too much.

Yes, it is a foregone conclusion where the battery came from.

 

The only way to stamp this out is stiff penalties for those selling and importing fake electrical goods.

I guess you could use that phone as a vibrator.

I would not class as minor burns to hands, leg and stomach, there again I am not a doctor but I would have sought professional medical help, normally that would be to get them to a hospital after cooling down the burned area with cold water.

I thought " Hot Pants "  died out in the 1970s.

They were in her jeans not her pants anyway. If they were in her pants ( panties ) she would have more than a few burnt fingers

Please don't ask a Yank how to speak English.     They haven't spoken English for many many years. Quote from

There was another mistake in ; "one of the pockets of her jean"  (even the spell corrector just  picked this one up).

My Thai wife still hasn't grasped the plural requirement for glasses, scissors, pants, jeans, and as for the double barrel slingshots ladies wear, she still calls them a bla.     Bless her.

It may not have been a faulty battery, a component failure could have caused massive battery current hence the heat. Poor lady. Modesty probably prevented her dropping the jeans instead.

Is it a gun in your pocket or... What! You're not a ladyboy and it's not a gun,  it's a smartphone!
