BANGKOK: -- Star-gazers in Thailand will have a better opportunity this coming Mother’s Day to see larger than normal number of shooting stars or meteor on the nights of August 12-13, said Mr Wimuti Wasalai, a member of the Thai Astronomical Society, on Tuesday.

The Perseid meteor shower consists of bits of dust from comet Swift-Tuttle which burn in Earth’s atmosphere. It stretches along the orbit of comet Swift-Tuttle.

Mr Wimuti estimated that there may be 90 shooting stars within an hour and if the weather is fine with cloudless clear sky, stargazers in Thailand will be able to see as many as 180 shooting stars an hour.

The perfect time to watch the stellar display is after 1 am on August 13.
