Reforestation effort underway in Chiang Mai

CHIANG MAI, 11 August 2016 (NNT)-The Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (DNP) has prepped a team of officials to begin a reforestation process in Chiang Mai’s encroached mountainous areas.

Seventy DNP officials from the Protected Area Regional Office 16 attended a meeting, which was chaired by DNP Director-General Thanya Netithammakun, hoping to get officials ready for the reforestation operation.

The officials will start collecting data on land use in riverside communities and informing those living in the vicinity of trespassed areas of the process in which they will also be involved.

More than 480,000 rai of nation parks, forest and wildlife reserves in Chiang Mai have been encroached upon. Some mountain ranges have become bare of trees and wildlife species due to the severity of encroachment.
