Thai police say wave of bomb blasts in central and south of the country are not linked to Islamic terrorism

Featured Replies

Well, it is being splashed over International media (television/radio etc etc)

 - the cause is being publicly reported as being attributed to dissent over the recent Vote.

and nothing to do with islam - as we all well know already.

The rocks to hide under have just been washed away in the WWW flood, and on all free to air networks.

National face is now drowning in it...

So far we hear no Aussies have fallen victim,

and each foreign country will now be reporting their respective citizens' situations.

Maybe it will only be safe, on-board one of those expensive ocean liners, sitting outside the 12 Mile limit

Holy Cinema - Pattaya??

Anywhere there's large gatherings of tourist would be considered "targets of opportunity" for the bad guys.

Everyone should remain vigilant, but also carry on as normal to show that public spirit can and often does defeat terrorism

Remain vigilant - Yes

Public spirit can defeat terrorism - Your having a laugh

Holy Cinema - my point was that if tourists were the main target why Hua Hin and not Pattaya and more in Bangkok? My previous comment related the Asian Highway (Route 4) as being the transit from southern provinces towards Bangkok and passing Hua Hin

Speculation I know but it generates discussion while the RTP find a culprit/scpaegoat

has the terrorist attacks across Europe recently and over the years actually stopped the way the public go about their daily business?

Perhaps defeat was a bit too OTT ;)

It did seemed to have worked when those Ladies in Belfast got sick of all the killing and brought about a change for the better in some peoples eyes.

Colour bloke, or Staffie?

To be fair to the Thai police, they are only doing what the authorities in the Uk and Germany did following recent atrocities:-

Deny any link to terrorism.

Deny any link to Islam.

Claim that the perpetrators had mental issues or personal grievances, or that local political issues were the motivating factor.

In Europe they have even done this despite the attacker shouting "Allahu Akhbar". But hey, we let it look as if the Mueslis are winning now, can we.

That's true. The media have changed.

A while ago the Israeli SITE institute could just fake any Tweets where "ISIS claimed responsibility" and get publicity. But now even the Muslim NIce-attacker had "mental problems". He took too many with him. If you just wield a machete and get shot on the spot you still belong to ISIS though.

Stupidity personified.

No more needs to be said.

Hello?  Thailand?  This isis.  Dai yin mai?  Sai mai dee.

Blame Pokemon Go? I wouldn't put it passed Kim, his Circus cronies, and the awesome yet endlessly hilarious Po-lease.

Live by the sword, die by the sword. Coups and military Hichahorhips don't exactly scream out democracy do they.

Auto checker goes too far

Police spokesmen and assorted big wigs have been spotted out and about with large brooms sweeping this issue under the carpet whilst asking members of the public to "move along as there is nothing to see here".

of course its not the muzzlims…if it was the bombs would have caused considerably more damage and loss of life.

Going about business is not the same as defeating ;)

A Staffie is a breed of dog :P

To my peers, my remark is in jest

Agree with you 100%

You just simply don't tell someone to go and "plant a bomb"

you have to do recce's, where to plant then, when to plant then, routes in and out, choke points, dry runs (Yala) a few weeks back ?

There was a pretty high degree of planning went into this, nothing random at all. This was probably  weeks in the making and planning , that really discounts the theory of blaming the elections.

That's a good point. (But there are other Muslims)

Didn't the US have a "Guantanamo" style prison in Thailand?

I admit Thai politics is tricky, but don't the the Thai leaders listen to Uncle Sam pretty much??

The name changes but the same rules apply.

Worldwide Caliphate is the name of the game.

convinced about what?

Does Thailand not have a small 'peace keeping' force in Iraq? I know it's drawing a long bow but this could upset some Muslim extremists.

"This will not affect Thai tourism."

Kobkarn-Wattanavrangkul.jpg

this sort of news is sufficient to shake up confidence, whatever, the intended motive behind the blasts, may be.we hope CCTV footage will throw up some light on the matter, although, understandably,  proper investigations will take some time.

Cui bono.  Who benefits?

Terrorist act by definition certainly.

They're right probably, if it was islamic terrorism it would happen in KSR at a peak time.  These bombs look more like attacks to scare people from coming to Thailand and ruin the tourism industry.  Looks politically motivated, probably done by red shirts.

You are crazy to think the red shirts have the ability to launch these attacks. The technical know how doesnt exist within the organisation and the logistics involved are out of their league. The attacks was done by southern muslim terrorists but for the army to acknowledge this will be a loss of face and its easier to blame the Redshirts. The truth however is that the Redshirts will never do the attacks on mothersday as this will allienate many Thais. This was a message send by the terrorists to the Thai army and government. The message say two things we can hit you when and where we want to and the second is that we dont agree with the new constitution (as reflected by them voting against the new constitution).

So obviously linked to the Southern terrorists.

You will be eating your words shortly.....just because that's what you want, doesn't make it any more likely - take a look a the geography, timing and demographics and you'll start to see how your unsupported  prejudices have clouded your judgement.

you think they only started planning after the referendum? it's not so much just about the charter - it is to embarrass the authorities. Have they ID'd the type of bomb yet?

No. There are no multinational peacekeeping forces in Iraq, and have not been since the Americans withdrew several years ago.

Thailand are already upsetting their Muslims, that's a civil war that's been ongoing now for over a decade.

Lots of reasons if you dig deeper, with regards to various issues, human trafficking would be one area the Army isn't particularly liked down in the South, the spate of killings of innocent people where the Army at times denied, and others it's said "ooops sorry about that, we will punish those responsible"  and then transfer them out of the place the RTA hate to be anyway!!

He said they are not linked to Islamic terrorism , he didnt say it's not terrorism . Must be hard to read the whole article.

I hope they do not turn out to be foreign terrorists whoever they are. If so never mind the sim tracking, I can foreigners wearing neck braces connected to leash that only a local can hold.
