WHO DID IT?

Who are the likely suspects behind Phuket and Hua Hin bomb attacks?

Thai police have been sent scrambling to identify who was behind the deadly bombing spree that rocked the country.
No one has claimed responsibility for the attacks, with speculation over the possible groups and their motives growing.

-Bangkok bombers
The attack took place almost a year to the day of the bombing of the Erawan Shrine and no group claimed responsibility since. The bombing killed more than 20 and injured more than 100 people. The method of the 2015 attack, which used a bomb left in a backpack and was detonated by a mobile phone, was similar to that of the recent bombings which saw the bombs left in plants lining the main street.
Police have since charged two ethnic Uighur Chinese men over the attack with both men pleading not guilty.

-Anti-government movement
Junta leader Prayuth Chan-ocha only this week took responsibility for bringing stability back to the country. But reports have surfaced that the attacks might have been done to embarrass the military government. The attack also took place on the birthday of Thai Queen Sirikit, with the attacks possibly motivated to protest those in power.

-Red-shirts
The supporters of ousted Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, mostly made up of rural poor and left-wing activists and students, have previously been involved in street battles against the military almost 10 years ago. The group has been involved in street protests in recent years, agitating against the junta.

-ISIS
Authorities have tried to stem fears that the bombings were planned by international terrorists but concerns groups like ISIS were slowly growing in southeast Asia were flagged only this week. Countries were warned ISIS would be able to conduct dangerous terrorist attacks with little resources and the support of only a few individuals.

I'm a great believer in Napoleon's adage "never attribute to malice what is adequately explained by incompetence". One of the shrewdest observations ever made. But to be honest, I think Mr Prayuth is not just outstandingly incompetent, simple stupidity doesn't go any where near far enough, it's all gone well beyond mere incompetence.

This is now deliberate malice, and there is always a price to be paid.

Prayuth was cleverer than Pheua Thai and the Democrats put together when he persuaded them to meet in the same room to discuss the impasse in May 2014.

Clever?  Seriously?

Do you think it takes a clever man to detain two easy to locate people when you have an army helping you?

Do you have a more convincing example of cleverness?

Thai security forces are seeking Malaysia's cooperation in investigating a series of bombings in several southern provinces between Thursday and Friday, killing four people and injuring 35.

According to security sources, Thailand sought Malaysia's cooperation to investigate a mobile phone used in one of the bomb blasts in Phuket, which is said to have originated from Malaysia.

Hmmm

Well Prayuth is on record as saying he xdid not plan a coup (that would be treason), but that he only decided to execute a coup (still treason), after the Caretaker PM refused to resign with his cabinet,

Ooh. You appear to be 100% wrong then.

Another piece of the phone found at the bomb blast.

Somboon Kaikaew, 41, a Patong motorcycle taxi driver, suffered an injury to his right arm on Friday morning, when an explosion occurred at the traffic signal control box near the junction of Bangla Road and the beach road in Phuket’s premier tourist town.

Meanwhile, a security guard working for Patong’s China Town Plaza (Sai Nam Yen Plaza) commented on finding one of the suspicious items that caused an initial bomb scare on August 10, days before an actual bomb was detonated, injuring one motorbike taxi driver.

Mr Kamthon Kedkaeo, a native of Krabi, explained that at about 6.40pm on August 10 he became suspicious when two male suspects abandoned a clear bag containing a strange device inside.

Mr Kamthon explained that he became suspicious when the two suspects had entered a clothing shop to purchase clothes and shortly after finishing their purchase, returned to abandon the bag before leaving again.

An EOD unit is currently inspecting the device as pedestrians have been evacuated beyond a 200-metre radius. "

It for sure is terrorism , as that's what its all about, What is not known is who is doing it.

If they were found today how do they know the bombs were there since Wednesday?

Come on Winnie, don't pretend to be naive, you know better than to believe what every official says on record. I doubt very much Pheua Thai would have entered the room that day in May if they knew they wouldn't be leaving it as free men. The Democrats seemed to have had more idea,. Which one was it who turned round  to his colleague when Prayuth announced the coup  and said, 'I told you so.' only to be told to shut up!

Prayuth fooled them all that day.

Doesn't change the fact, which is perfectly obvious to all, that Prayuth and his band planned a heinous crime; probably the most serious non-murder crime on the statute books, and then tried to pretent he didn't. Fortunately, the big mouth of Suthep almost immediately gave the lie to Prayuth. He lied to the Thai people within 24 hours of executing a coup, and has never stopped lying since.

Come the day...

I could be wrong about this and maybe overly cynical.

But when I read about the police "saving the people and preventing further disaster" by disarming other bombs, I just don't feel sure it is correct.

If the authorities just claim to have located and disarmed more bombs, at least they seem to have done something useful. (So far they haven't done anything, except claiming they know who did it.) OK, there are photos, but are these unexploded bombs real, planted by terrorists?

I don't remember details, but the same bell rang for some "good police work" after the Erawan bombing.

Was the finder of the undischarged bombs anonymous? OK, I admit I haven't read all about it.

Disarming the bombs definitely jacks up a possible reward for the police.
