August 16, 20169 yr I had a small scale designed for weighing suitcases but it broke while weighing my suitcase. It couldn't handle 30 kg and the springs jumped out, through the casing. So i need a new one now, a digital one this time. Is there a good brandname who makes them? And where can they be bought? Price is not important but it has to be decent quality.
August 16, 20169 yr If Bangkok try Verasu (which sells kitchen stuff & appliances). I did notice some sort of compact luggage weighing device there.. They have an online presence.
August 16, 20169 yr I bought mine at a fishing shop, but it's just a Chinese POS for around $5-10. Still works 3 years and 2-3 sets of batteries later, though. In fact, I used it tonight to weigh the excess bag I'll be checking in tomorrow morning. If you happen to pass a street kiosk with a lot of LED wall clocks, those are also the places that sell scales. I have several scales for weighing kitchen ingredients, and for counting small parts without actually counting them. Tons of the kiosks in Chinatown, especially in and around Khlong Thom.
August 16, 20169 yr Unless you need an exact weight, just get on a bathroom scale and weigh yourself holding the bag and without the bag. I have a digital scale with large red numbers that are easy to read when holding a suitcase. When my bag gets weighed at check-in, it's never off by more than a kilo.
August 16, 20169 yr Author The one i had was a cheap one without a brandname. This time i want to spend more for a good one since a good scale is important, it can save me from problems at the airport. I have no idea if 1 or 2 kg overweight is a problem but i won't be the one to test it out. Are there no scales from Samsonite or so? Or a suitcase with a scale built in the handle or wheels?
August 16, 20169 yr Found a bunch of options on Lazada, might give you a comparison and cost range. http://www.lazada.com.my/luggage-scales/

But the hook of some of them looks weak...Also my old one had a hook like that and it totally bended by the weight of my suitcase. When i tried to weigh again the hole thing broke and the springs jumped out. If i can't find a brandname one or "made in japan" i will go for lazada. Thanks!
August 16, 20169 yr I have one that's digital with a strap for the luggage handles that works great..... We recently flew AirAsia & they had a digital one with a strap good to 50 kilos for 650 in their on flight magazine..... Might be available online or at a counter.....
August 17, 20169 yr Thai Air has one in their inflight catalog for $31. Saw it this morning, but my cheapo fishing scale was right on at 20.0 kg for my excess bag- so I'm sticking with it. Regarding the brand, I suspect they're all made in China nowadays (including especially Samsonite and American Tourister), so I would't put too much stock -or spend too much money- on the brand name. Unless you can find one made in Japan, Korea, Europe or the USA. With the name of the country spelled correctly on the box.

Turns out it's a Samsonite 40kg model with the digital read out screen on the top. Feels well built and sturdy in your hand. Can't remember where I got it - an airport or at Walmart in the US, or how much I paid. Used it many times coming back to Thailand from the US. We have those big, BIG suitcases, packed to the gills with all sorts of heavy loot and the scale handled it fine. I used to do the stand on scale exercise. Weigh myself then stand on the scale with a suitcase and subtract the difference. The hand held scale is much better!
August 17, 20169 yr I've got one you can have, i never use it, Ill post it on to you if you want it. Edited August 17, 20169 yr by Hutch68
August 17, 20169 yr I got one of the hook type (very sturdy hook) with digital display. It was on sale at Home Pro about a year ago, cost about 300 baht as I remember. Used it a few times, compact, acceptable quality, cheap.
August 17, 20169 yr I got one of these off Ebay last year. Great scale, and works on 2 AAA batteries. I had one before that needs a 2032 battery, and moreover the charge would leak if left in, so that was a pain. If you're travelling in Europe and go to a regular store in the last minute, it's up to 5 Euros for a single such battery. http://www.ebay.com/itm/50Kg-10g-Digital-Electronic-Portable-Hanging-Luggage-Weight-Wide-Hook-Scale-K2-/272244484668?hash=item3f63092a3c Very unlikely you'd be charged import taxes on this. Normally anything under 1,000 Baht is exempt, and moreover, I think there's trade agreements with China, Singapore and other Asian countries.

Thanks for the offer but i allready have many packages coming by post..Yesterday i tracked one package from china and the tracking said they had been at our house twice, nobody home so it was at the postoffice. My wife went there and they told her they couldn't read the address (which was printed in big letters, all perfect), so they also hadn't been to our house.... Strange story right? So i won't order much online anymore, going to the postoffice takes more than an hour for us in slow Bangkok. I hope to find one in the Samsonite shop in the mall or buy it when i'm in Japan or so.

I just received a battery from China, costed 200 us$ and was sent by boat. No importtax or anything. shipping took 2-3 weeks. The trick is to order from China, let them pack it in a blanc box (no letters or anything else, only address) and use a Thai name. I'm expecting another package soon, 70us$ from banggood, let's see if i have to pay importtax on that one.

I had two before that costing 15-20 Euros and this one is my best. As for customs, so far I've also escaped paying duties from Asian countries, other than Japan. I think it's partly luck though who is on duty that day. Edited August 17, 20169 yr by ChidlomDweller

Yes, but it's always on the return trip of a holiday you need it most. Not very practical to travel with bathroom scales everywhere....
