NLA approves principles of turning Thai Red Cross College of Nursing into a university

  

BANGKOK, 18 August 2016 (NNT) - The National Legislative Assembly (NLA) has approved in principle the bill to turn the Thai Red Cross College of Nursing into a university, in order to raise the effectiveness of medical treatment. 

Deputy Education Minister Teerakiat Charoensethasin said the Thai Red Cross College of Nursing has successfully produced medical personnel to meet demand in the healthcare sector. To further the college’s capabilities, it will be upgraded to a university that is able to confer graduate degrees and above, facilitating research and academia. 

The NLA approved the principles of the proposal with 171 votes in favor, one in opposition and five abstentions. The bill will undergo 60 days of committee review and an additional 15 days of revisions before returning to the floor for deliberation.
