No. I would not trust a shady girl. I might have a frivolous physical relationship with one though.

Don't trust women, period.  "It's always better to be on your guard, than to suffer once."

Why try and trust a shady girl when you can at least try and find one a bit more honest? It's not like there are a shortage of women in Thailand. Go on a couple of the dating sites and weed out the hookers there and maybe 1 out of every 50 or 100 is legit and can be trusted in the Thai sense.

But that's the key. Trust as applies to Thai culture. Westerners often don't learn that trust and honesty are not a top virtue in Thailand like in the West.  We cannot imagine that there are cultures in the world that value saving face over honesty. But that is how it is. Thais will lie to your face vs. losing face themselves.

So, when you ask about trusting someone in Thailand, we need to adjust your definition of the word so it is culturally appropriate.

Right on with regard to "cultural differences". If only Farangs would pay more attention to this fact. Example: A Thai does "a bad deed". Thai Buddhism allows for instant forgiveness, as soon as the Thai visits the nearest Wat and hands over a liberal amount of money. = Walking out of the Wat with a clean shirt. Over and over again........

If Farangs would spend the time to familiarize themselves with such "cultural differences", there would be less comments from Farangs, exclaiming "how could she do this to me". Also over and over again..........

Cheers.

One of the most basic 'laws' of psychology has the fancy name, 'the principle of behavioural consistency', and simply means that past behaviour is the best predictor of future behaviour. One of my American friends--a psychologist himself--somehow forgot this one. A younger woman whom he liked (not a Thai) once stole a chequebook from his house and tried to write cheques to herself in his name. The bank caught her. He asked that she not be charged because he didn't want to ruin her life (at least that's the reason he gave to us). Some months later he actually went into business with her, opening a business account to which she (as a partner) had full access to. She strung him along for a while with phony sales figures etc., and when he finally went to check the account himself (at my suggestion), he learned that she'd cleared it the day after he'd set it up. She's in jail now, and all the money is gone (she claims it was all spent). Oh yeah, he lost US$220K on that one. People's ethics don't change quickly...

Docno, good post. :)

With many people, their ethics never change, no matter how many chances they are given. Even the shock of incarceration, doesn't make them change their ways. :coffee1:

As for Eldragon and his dilemma, I think you already know the answer to the question you posted. Follow your head and keep your money. There are so many good, honest ladies out there. Take your time and you will find one.

Kind of like a Catholic going to confession eh?  Ireland, Italy and America I wouldn't trust any Catholics from there because of the confession issue.  Although it was fun dating Catholic high school girls.:P

That is what I was trying to say - in a more subtle way.

At the mall if one is lucky you can pick up girls who work in the deli for a quickie while going shopping.  This to me does not detract from their ability to weigh meat and fish.  They still make the correct change before and after the paid encounters.  So this is factual evidence that shadiness does not effect honest change making ability.

No, it's not like that at all.

In Thailand, it is accepted to value saving face over anything else. Honesty and trust are not as valued as in the West. Westerners cannot imagine living in a culture where honesty is just, eh, a coincidence at best. It is not strived for, and, in fact, becomes a nuisance when it does not allow someone to save face.

That's what it's like, not Catholicism. You have it backwards. Catholics don't intentionally do bad things because they have the mechanism of confession. Thais will intentionally do bad things if it saves face. Big difference. Westerners value honesty at the top of virtues. Thais value saving face at the top of the virtues.

That's not a judgment issue, it just an observation of differences. No one can say one is better than the other, only what works better for one person or another.

Red flags what a laugh, how the ell would anyone know without meeting her,  I take it your a man so if you know yourself trust is earned so if you like her go with it and see where it leads.

The posit is she has been known to be shady.  Therefore, I would trust her to be shady until proven otherwise; which could be never. Since trying to present oneself as trustworthy is a common trait among untrustworthy people; I would be very reluctant to trust her with anything, period.

I find numerous school girls, or at least girls in school girl garb, come up to me in the malls. Some are taking a survey or other activity for school. Others are almost blatant about some other intent. One even started the conversation asking if I had the time to take her back to my hotel room so I could help her with her English.  Are they shady? Some  are pretty and pink.

No, don't trust any woman.

In my experience, when relationships end, any and all agreements, settlements, etc. are reneged upon.

It may be a personal problem with the women you select or the way you treated them. I have gone through two divorces and two break-ups from long-term relationships--still on good terms with them all. Both divorces were cost-free to me--the first, we were both kids and neither had anything; the second, she was wealthier than I, we split everything 50-50, even though my contribution was more like 30%. The two relationships were not monetarily-based either, so I purchased no cars, houses or scooters. In fact, the causes of all the separations were my actions. I am sweet, but no angel.

" Or even someone who was simply involved with a much older man at some point in her past, presumably (although not necessarily) for an opportunity, or the payday. Could you ever trust a girl like that?"

The main reason that a lot of women go with "much" older men is security. And the fact that most of they young guys that have been coming over the last 5 years or so, are not what would be considered a "catch."

I mean, look around!

And then they cheat on the old guy with the young guys.

How would you know about her previous??? If you know first hand not hearsay she is Shady why would you want to trust her anyway. Have you been shafted and looking to somehow say all women are not trust worthy! !!!

Seems like a lot of women here have a man for security and a guy or guys for fun. Then they talk all sweet to these guys like they're gonna be together someday. I just don't understand why women like this think a guy who knows what they do to other men would ever trust them.

Some of the most genuine people I have ever met were scoundrels at one time or other. It's the "suits" I would be careful of.

That's the thing. Many of these girls are very nice. They seem to separate the guys they bilk and the ones they love. It's almost like they have an affliction for guys that won't be fooled by em.

Possibly, but I don't think it happens that often.

At least not in the situations that I'm aware of.

90% of the women I've dated in Thailand were eventually determined to be cheating on someone. I'm not sure why ones that are married to much older men would be any different.

Met a shady thai girl last night…..beautiful….slightly low rent thai version of beyonce….my kinda chick.

Amazing how lying just seems to be ingrained in them….stupid insignificant lies they don't really have to tell.

Said she was from bkk (hi-so)…..i felt her hands and said ….looks like you have been lifting huge bags of rice in isaan….so she says Im from nong khai (but my papa chinese)

Said her girlfriend/co worker was waiting for her customer from last night to take her to dinner…..later I saw her and her friend having a shady thai noodle soup…just the two of them. Another totally unnecessary fib.

Didn't get a chance to verify her other claims….I work for a fashion designer in bkk and model clothes for her…but wouldn't be surprised if she's just another woman dumped by a farang sponsor.

Kept asking me to take her to eat…while stroking my….errrrr….ears :D…..and wanted something like 7,000 bht for a couple of hours of her time.

The hard sell was so hard, I actually had to remove myself from her company….shame, because in pattaya Id have been all over her like a std.

Shady girls…i love them….the trick is not getting suckered in….but overall it was my loss as she was quite something.

Blows me away these girls think we'll fall for their garbage. Yet someone must be, b/c they still do it. The sophisticated ones must be cleaning up.

2nd meeting with shady girl I mentioned earlier.

When I walked into the bar she and her friend were eating…had a ciggie and strolled back for a little chat.

Their bill came and it was about 1,000 baht….I could see the looks of pain on the girls faces and a voice inside told me to wait there, as shady girl would no doubt be making a move on me.

Sure enough….she says can you give me 500baht? Think of it as buying me dinner? :whistling:

I said what will you give me in return….thinking she might offer me some dessert :gigglem:

Shady girl says I will give you my number….her number is worth 500 baht, apparently.

Why would you trust anyone? i can't even trust my children.

Trust is just something you don't need in your life.

As for choice of sexual partners, I always wanted drug dealers, murderers and gang members.

But I was never attractive enough to score one of them as a regular partner and had to settle for a banker.

Don't ask my why, that's just the way it works with many women.

No….but yes….but no.

It would be nice to get to know her in the biblical sense but her attitude is a major turnoff….she will probably be asking for tips while doing the deed.

Thankfully, in pattaya one can meet ladies with her looks and a better attitude far more easily.

Would you buy a car that has a history of breaking down every time it is driven? of course not.

Don't get hung up on one girl. There are literally billions of them on the planet and thousands in your city. Set some standard for the women in your life and walk away from those that don't meet those standards
