PM: Southern attacks have united people

Thammarat Thadaphrom

BANGKOK, 20 August 2016 (NNT) - The prime minister has commented that the bomb and arson attacks in southern Thailand have not disrupted people’s unity and love for their nation.

Speaking about the explosions in Thailand, Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha said today that while the incidents have caused great losses, especially the lives of innocent people, the attacks did not demoralize the people’s mentality.

He said people have now become stronger and will help each other every way they can. He then urged everyone seeing suspicious activities or unusual objects to report them to officers immediately.

If everyone helps keep the nation safe, the prime minister believes no ill-intentioned people will stand a chance.

He also called on responsible agencies to teach members of the public how to help prevent future attacks and follow instructions at all times especially in emergency situations such as insurgent attacks and natural disasters.

So is he saying the southern insurgents are responsible?

The Southern attacks have disgust rather then unite people. Disgusted that the government is not doing enough to stop these attacks and have no intelligence to prevent them.

Agreed; and both meanings if the word 'intelligence' apply !

Nothing better to unite people than them bombing each other. A common hobby.

dream on, buddy...

No, he is saying nothing. Nothing whatsoever. Just the circumlocution of someone who likes the sound of his own voice.

Should the nation 'brace' for further attacks and more unity then?

agreed, these bombings and further bombings should help unify us all. just need to stop being negative nancies and look on the bright side of things.

Is there no limit to this man's audaciousness?

united, 5 people at time, more then that you go to jail

If he keeps talking about love,   unity,   common purpose etc this he might actually start to believe it himself after all isn't the truth just a lie repeated often enough   ?

It makes a person wonder if they really believe in their minds that we are taken in by this trash they spew out for public consumption or that they just feel obliged to say anything.

Everyone on here knows they have achieved nothing, people arrested will probably be scapegoats or cannon fodder, released as soon as the headlines die down following an arrest, because they were not guilty in the first place. I don't want this to be a ;' cue ' for people to start bringing up the Koh Tao nonsense, we all know! Thailand is as safe as it will be until the next bombing.

Next, what do they ever actually achieve by their own ' detective work? ' Well, the answer is usually nothing. Any major drug dealers, arms dealers, are usually the result of work done by international agencies or tip offs and all that the Thais do is make sure their clothes are pressed for the photo op. The work is done by the Americans, European police agencies, Aussies etc etc

They can solve murders and misdemeanors and the odd Yaa Baa addict in the local communities by terrorizing the ill educated villagers, using their uniforms to take advantage of the well known Thai syndrome of ' automatic respecting any person wearing a suit with shiny buttons and a parachute badge ' the drunks and loudmouths who can't hold their own water, as Thais are the biggest supergrasses, for absolutely no personal advantage, the world has ever seen, and lastly by setting people up.

I recall a long time ago I had a legal problem and went to the police station in a major Thai city and was directed and advised to seek assistance from a particular police major in an office full of desk captains, majors and lieutenants and I asked why this particular police major would be helpful to me as opposed to the others?

Quick as a flash came the proud response..." Ah, he is clever and has studied, he knows Thai law! " and that sums it up for me the abilities of the Thai police and military.

"He said people have now become stronger and will help each other every way they can."

Here's the reality of living in Thailand: If you have a personal relationship with a Thai, they will help you and can be a good friend. If you don't have A personal relationship with a Thai you could die in a ditch for all most of them care. There is no sense of obligation to others outside of the personal relationship, though if you get in a traffic accident, many people whom you don't know and who don't know you, will gather around to watch you die in great pain.

If this is indeed true, then something was definitely needed to bring Thais together. The junta have done sweet FA in trying to foster reconciliation in this country.

In fact, it could be argued that they have gone out of their way to alienate political opponents, "dissenters", and minority groups, as part of their pursuit of nationalistic dogma over historic fact!

He's implying that it is the public's responsibility to care of themselves.
