Two Bangkok pharmacies in Jatujak and Ramkhamhaeng were raided yesterday for illegally selling drugs to students in the areas.

The medicine is classified as Class 4 prohibited. An informant had told police that school children and university students were getting hold of the drugs that would then be mixed with cough mixture to get high.

Police found a large stash of the restricted drugs - used to treat mental conditions - at two shops of the "Ban Ya" chain in Soi Seua Yai Uthit, Jatujak and Soi Ramkhamhaeng 53, Wang Thong Luang district.

Two women in charge at the shops were arrested: Phimnaraporn Phuthachart, 65, and Kanokwan Khamyan, 29. They were charged with illegally selling Class 4 drugs along with offences regarding the registration of such medication.

Idiots... getting high is so cheap in Thailand...and readily available.  Leave the pharmacies alone

The good stuffs from the lab man! Contraband from a know pharmacist supplier has low street cred, because it's priced 3 times higher and privately supplied for more 'sophisticated' druggies. It the same thing in the US and Europe, but it seems Thailand is catching on fast!

Tramadol is not a class 4 drug, nor a mental decease related med. caution should be taken when taken for long periods of time.

Abuse is a personal choice!

Class 4: valium, xanax, ativan

Tramadol sucks as a pain med.

Tramadol helped me when I had my feet broken and about 10% of my skin removed from a bike accident. I can't imagine life at that time without it.

Tramadol is more effective for nerve pain than anything else.

That would explain why I couldn't feel the extreme loss of skin while it was working, but it masked my broken bone pain as well. At the time, it was a miracle drug for me.

there are many ways of getting high. some people got high on HACKS sweets mixed in coca cola. similarly as observed by some of the writers there are other alternatives in Thailand. but the pharmacies getting on the act is irresponsible and a disgrace to their profession.

It's really cheap and can be used for a high, but it is quite dangerous as it is an SSRI. It is a synthetic opioid that is also an antidepressant. High dosing on them can cause seizures and haemorrhaging, and the tolerance increase pretty fast.

Tramadol is an effective medicine but should be administered by Medical Doctors as it is done in Europe and the country of its origin Germany. Not as in Thailand were every Tom, Dick and Harry can walk into a Pharmacy and buy it, same as you can buy another effective medicine Valium which is a bit more difficult to buy in Thailand but you can still buy it if you happen to know the Pharmacist.

The Orthopedic Surgeon had me on Valium and Feldene 3-times a day for 1-year with back and neck fusion of vertebras 1 - 2 - 3 lower back and vertebra 1 - 2 - 3 lower neck. The Surgeon was quiet confident I could use these medicines for a 1-year period without adverse effects because I'm NOT an ALCOHOLIC.  I'm absolutely sure he would not have prescribed these two medicines to anybody that cannot stay away from the "bottle".

I have seen what Valium does to alcoholics. It is not a pretty sight and that is the reason it is not readily available in Thailand like so many other medicines.

Almost every pharmacy besides the big chains like BOOTS will have what ever you want.

I am on tramadol for a motorbike accident that happened years ago and yes, it is highly addictive and its a pain in the bum to withdraw from it. Thats the only reason I am still taking it.

I feel for you. It was difficult for me to quit as well after being on it for several months of heavy use. I weened off very slowly.

Tramadol works differently in people. For some. Myself included it is one he'll of a mood enhancer. The problem is when it's removed. The depression can be horrible. Not all people experience the same effects with it. Not all people have the same brain chemistry.  Personally, I would never touch the stuff again. It was a Nightmare. But great when I was on it. Helped with the pain and my mind set.
