Neither insurgents in the South nor any group made claims on the current attacks (similarly and very oddly, nor did the Uighurs group claim the Erawan attack). In this case, a mastermind could have hired local elements using Malaysian phones for a simple ruse.  Meanwhile,  police have proven time and time again they don't really want to investigate properly, seemingly more inclined to find scapegoats (ala Koh Tao murder investigation).

Whoever is behind this,  they do seem very angry and responding in a targeted way (South yes vote areas/on a Royal day), also they appear bent on trying to de-rail tourism (thus the economy) and moreover destabilise Thailand all in advance of a difficult transition period.

Just one of many similar incidents since 2006 to now and one expects it will get worse in the near term. Not a junta fan-boy but given many past incidents, patterns and what's likely coming, the Army is unfortunately/regretfully highly needed during this time period to maintain a civil society and to preserve law and order (cannot count on the mainly 'tomato'  police, as we've seen many times in the past).

He's not a junta fan-boy but he condones the cause to be the solution. That's junta logic if you ever saw it.

From same article:  the group "might have been hired" by others to carry out the attacks

Yes. Like the Pattaya Bridge Club as retrobution for their arrests last year. I think they would be more inclinded to carry out attacks using clubs and spades.
