Multiple Re-entry Permits

Featured Replies

Hi there,  my first -year O-A (Retirement) visa enter before date is 19 Oct 2016,  if I enter Thailand say 15 Sept 2016 understand I am allowed to stay until say 14 Sept 2017.

What about my multiple re-entry permit which I presume valid only until 19 Oct 2016,  when must I renew/re-apply for a new permit.

In Chiangmai do I apply permit at the  airport immigration office or at the Prom........thank you..:wai2:

As long as you do an entry on or before the enter before date on your visa you will get a new one year entry.

After the enter before date you will need a re-entry permit to keep your last entry valid if you want to travel. You can get a single re-entry permit (1000 baht) or a multiple re-entry permit (3800 baht) that will be valid up to the date your permit to stay date from you last entry.

You will apply for it at the Promenada office.

Your posts confuse me. If you have an existing, unexpired O-A visa, you should not have a current re-entry permit. It is not needed until you need to exit and re-enter Thailand after the Enter Before date on your visa. You will not need a re-entry permit (indeed, should not buy one) until you make the final entry on your valid visa. You indicate an intention of making such an entry in September 2016. Following this, you can buy a re-entry permit (single or multiple) at any time. before leaving Thailand.

I am assuming here that, while confused about re-entry permits, you do understand the difference between a visa and an extension of stay. An extension of stay provides no right of entry to Thailand, and must always be backed by a re-entry permit when you wish to travel.

Yes Tim I am holding unexpired visa with an enter before date 19 Oct..Intend to enter Thailand on 15 Sept and exit Thailand about 40 days later stay about 30 days outside Thailand and  enter Thailand again in Nov....So I presume I have to  renew/re-apply my re-entry permit during my stay in Sept/Oct in thailand...Yeah thai immigration rules are confusing....

You have a visa that allows multiple entries that is not a re-entry permit and does not require one.

A re-entry permit is based upon a permit to stay not a visa.

You don't need to get a re-entry permit until after you do your last entry and then you can apply for it whenever you want to as long as you do it before you leave the country.
