Just A Little Fill-in On Basic Visa Wisdom Requested

Featured Replies

Some technicalities and other voids of really basic visa awareness that are rather buggering me at the moment. Any bestowed wisdom would, in my opinion, be indication of most praiseworthy, superluminal generosity! :o

So I have a single-entry 60-day tourist visa, good until or through January 2'nd.

If I leave the country and re-enter, the visa-run deal, and get a 30-day just-visiting visa or what-ever-they-be-called, do these 30 days extend from my date of re-entry or from January 2'nd?

And is all I have to do is book a flight or bus ride to, say, Cambodia, stay for one or two nights perhaps, or simply pass over for a couple hours, and then hop back over the border? What part of the 30-day extension is not automatic and requires some knowhow on my behalf?

Additionally, there's a Full Moon New Years bash on this coming December 31st, that I am totally psyched about. Does anyone have any opinion whether it might be feasible to party the new year, and then on the 1st to dash from Ko Pangan for Cambodia or wherever for a 30-day extension?

Many well-intentioned thoughts in all your general directions for any assistance whatsoever,

Sincerely,

mark baum

What is important is the 60 day stamp immigration put in your passport and assume that is what has the 2 Jan date.

You can extend your stay on a tourist visa for 30 days with payment of 1,900 baht, a photo and filling out a TM.7 form. I would advise doing that before you travel to Ko Pangan. That will extend your stay until the end of January.

A border crossing and return provides a 30 day entry without visa for those entitled this option. The date of entry is day one.

I would not try to make travel plans during the New Year rush.

Visa extensions can be done in the Immigration office in Samui (none on Koh Phangan, I am afraid). I would recommend doing it on the 29th (Friday) in Samui, but be sure to have accomodation on Koh P before then as the New Years is a very busy time.

sounds like you should get an extention as you are looking to depart next day - highly unadvisable on many fronts. better if you dont get extention to go few days before. keep your accomodation if you are in heavy tourist area.

you only need to x for an hour to cambodia.
