With the influx of farang on Samui searching for cheaper, warmer and less-infiltrated farang paradises, how to cope with the jerk monsters? Does the racial/cultural divide seem to explode here in the heat? Italians screaming at Brits, Brits shouting at Yanks, nasties fighting in clubs...Is Samui a free zone for zenophobia and verbal and physical abuse? How do you cope?

The mess is easy to see. Like - last winter there was a gang of Swedes (like me) who came to a small restaurant near my room, on their huge motor bikes, screaming and shouting to each other so I could not hear my own thoughts! And they were actually rather sober, the lady owning the restaurant was saying, with a sad smile: "they come almost every evening, order water and the cheapest food, and scare off our other guests".

It was easy to hear the details about everyone they hated, what they did with their girls 1/3 the size of them . . . . .

After 2-3 evenings like that I avoided the hours when they usually came. And first I listened - if they were there, one could hear it from far off.

strange thread....best to move else where when you encounter this sort of people.

I will agree with you there, but it's about finding the right place on the Island to live/stay. The main places Cheweng & Lamai are of the OP's type of people (usually) the area I live is cool calm and collected, and hope it stays that way!

Except when you get involved in the time share or the Pattaya debate Jens ... then it heats up in your neck of the woods ... a Samui supernova ... :o

Great to know Im remembered for being against these kinds of Cons in LOS, but I guess you are one of the few that are involved in Timeshare?

It heats up in me when some greedy people try to rob honest people from their life savings! But guess you can't understand that.

Belligerent Timeshare salesmen? That's a new method.

"Hey #######, do you speak English? No, don't say no thank you to me you slag, just take a ###### minute to look at this! I came here a year ago, ran out of ####### dosh a month later and now I have to flog ####### condo timeshares to ####### halfwits like you so sit the ####### down and listen to me for ###### sake!"

I always pity the touts running around desperately begging "Do you speak English?"

Destitute in Thailand is a bad state to be in.

Im on your side here Jens .. not involved in any way from my end .... not my style, ask Terry .. just remember some of your comments in some previous threads .... not a criticism but a good memory I guess or I would have forgotten it ..... :D

"Move on" is the only way to deal with this unless your prone to conflict. I have never seen this in several trips to Samui but it doesn't surprise me. Jerks are everywhere. You can't fix them. They have to fix themselves. Most don't know their broken however. :o

That's an interesting account. I've often been approached by these "Do you speak English" guys in Chaweng and though I'm a native English speaker and on a couple of occasions listened to a few minutes of thieir pitch, I never could quite understand what their game was nor why I would want to blow a day of my vacation time going with them to listen to even more sales pitch. How do those guys stand to make money - are they just annoying but honest farangs trying to make a buck by getting you stay at a hotel from which they will get a commission?

Thanks for the input and the twist on timeshare sharks, y'all.

Trolling, Khun Cobra? Just fishing for responses from fellow farangs.

I thought the line "It's easy to quit smoking..." was "It's easy to quit drinking. I've done it many times." WC Fields

I was once geting a taxi (daytime) and there is this huge farang across the soi about twice the

size of me just glaring at me like a professional (fake) wrestler does to intimidate his

opponent. Really wierd.

But other than that no problems with other farangs.
