BANGKOK, 29 August 2016 (NNT) - The Minister of Tourism and Sports has disclosed that tourism organizations worldwide are confident in the security measures employed by Thai authorities, while the situation of foreign tourists has returned to normalcy.

Tourism and Sports Minister Korbkarn Watthanawarangkura said that United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) President Rifai Taleb has affirmed that World Tourism Day 2016 will take place in Thailand as planned, during 26-29 September 2016.

The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) also affirmed that Thailand would still be the host country for the 16th WTTC Global Summit 26-27 April 2017, the minister adds.

A small number of foreign tourists reportedly cancelled their flights after the bombing incident, but the situation has returned to normal, as tourists are confident in the security measures employed by Thai authorities.

Tourism organisations worldwide are confident in security measures,   well of course they are just as the international community understands the road map and supports everything the junta is doing.

This lady went to Hua Hin where she was surrounded by police and military including an EOD team  and then claims tourists are confident.

What is normal?

Tourists being gang kicked in the head and culprits released instead of charged with attempted grievous bodily harm?

Elderly woman beaten unconscious?

What is normal?

Do you even know who extensively bombed tourist areas?

How can you audaciously even claim safety .?

The lady doth protest too much, methinks. Hamlet Act III, Scene II

Why, i' faith, methinks she's too low for a high praise, too brown for a fair praise and too little for a great praise: only this commendation I can afford her, that were she other than she is, she were unhandsome; and being no other but as she is, I do not like her. Benedick, from Much Ado About Nothing

Pretty much.

According to the Australian Government, normal is "exercise a high degree of caution in Thailand due to the possibility of civil unrest and the threat of terrorist attack, including in Bangkok and Phuket."

We advise you to exercise a high degree of caution in Thailand due to the threat of terrorist attack, including Bangkok and Phuket. We continue to receive reports that terrorists may be planning attacks against a range of targets, including locations frequented by tourists and foreigners. Thai authorities have on a number of occasions warned of the possibility of bombings in Thailand to coincide with symbolic dates or holidays.

We continue to receive reports of the sexual assault, food and drink spiking, assault and robbery of foreigners, including around popular backpacker and tourist destinations such as Khao San Road in Bangkok, the night-time entertainment zones in Bangkok, Pattaya and Phuket, and during Full Moon and other parties on Koh Phangan. Due to the high prevalence of HIV/AIDS, victims of violent crime, especially rape, are strongly encouraged to seek immediate medical assistance.

Petty crime, such as theft from hotel rooms, and pickpocketing is common. Money and passports have been stolen from rooms (particularly in cheaper hotels and hostels) and from bags on public transport. Items have been removed from luggage stored below buses and travellers have reported being drugged and robbed during bus and train journeys. Beware of pickpockets in crowded markets and shopping streets. You can reduce the impact of opportunistic crime when visiting these areas by leaving credit and other valuable items that are not required locked in your hotel safe. Remain vigilant in public areas.

Tourists have also been robbed after the bags they were carrying were snatched by thieves on motorcycles or were sliced open by razor blades. Beware of motorcycles approaching from behind as you walk on the footpath and hold bags and backpacks in front of you or in ways that make them difficult to be snatched. You should be aware that some foreigners, including an Australian tourist, have been killed in these incidents. You can reduce the opportunity for such opportunistic theft by limiting the carriage of easily grabbed bags in public places.

It appears the official situation isn't as rosy as Khun Korbkarn and the National Propaganda Network would have us believe...

what a comparison

Would anyone buy a used car from this woman?

Remember folks, this is the same lady who said that Pokemon would restore confidence in the Thai tourism sector.  Take her comments for what they are, wishful thinking and ignorant.

So you've fallen under her hypnotic spell   ?

Just like the assurances of the Mayor of Amity, before Jaws struck again.

Even more uncertain is media restrictions and individuals attempting to warn us of criminals and bombings ( by social media)

i recall a contributor member here complaining that authorities were stopping him from taking photos in the after math of bombings saying it was going to affect tourism.

They only care about money not people's safety which is why governments have such detailed warnings as these .

Clearly her fears are high.

As they should be.

Concealing them is not working.

People  are choosing other countries in the wake of bombings and Marshall law and death gangs .

The next bombings will cripple Tourism .

Polls saying otherwise will be wheeled out but confidence is gone

Being the wife of a Pol. Gen.......there's hardly much that she could say about security measures....although even she must be wondering why such inept bumbling seems to prevail, when the RTP have high profile investigations to conduct!

yes this is normal, for thailand. maybe not normal for the rest of the world.

National News Bureau of Thailand (mouthpiece for the govt, part of the govt's Public Relations Department) media releases are always rosy...all is well....all under control....no worries.

The concept they use is simple, "I saw nothing, therefore there is nothing to worry about". Otherwise called the ostrich syndrome.

Good point and it extends to members on here sometimes with the   '   I'm all right jack  '  tenor or suggesting if certain issues haven't happened to them they don'r exist.

Then why haven't the military authorities caught the bombers in Hua Hin

and elsewhere?

What security measures - the boarders have more holes than a bar in Pattaya.

..............tourists are confident in the security measures employed by Thai authorities.

As if tourists have any clue whatsoever what security measures are in place, if any!

She did say Pokemon would save Thailand.  I wonder if they will make an appearance on World Tourism Day :D.  Even my 8 year old Thai daughter thinks this lady is a joke.

The three monkeys also do a passable job

Don't doubt her! She is smart. Bombings, murders, beatings and the disastrous road toll are all normal. Oh yea of little faith :coffee1:

Quiet please ladies and gentlemen as the Minister of Tourism is going to make a statement AND you are about to enter The Twilight Zone.

Well a couple of weeks ago i sent an e-mail to TAT suggesting another way of "tracking"Tourist coming to Thailand. This was an answer to SIM Card reg, link here:

http://www.lifed.com/advertorial/new-tracking-method-adapted-to-all-budgets?voluumdata=BASE64dmlkLi4wMDAwMDAwMi03MjUyLTQ2MWYtODAwMC0wMDAwMDAwMDAwMDBfX3ZwaWQuLjQyNzkyODAwLTYwZjEtMTFlNi04NTc1LTc5NWMwM2ZmOGQxN19fY2FpZC4uMDViOWYzOTctOTY1NS00YTczLWJlNzItNjg0MDJlYTZjODc5X19ydC4uUl9fbGlkLi5jNWNlOWJkMC1iZmNjLTQ1NDEtYTJkNC1iN2ZmMGU1MGEzZjlfX29pZDEuLjA5MDE1NjIzLWQ2NGItNDkyNi1iYWI5LTcxYTQxZTgyMTU1NF9fcmQuLnBhaWRcLlxvdXRicmFpblwuXGNvbV9fYWlkLi5fX2FiLi5fX3NpZC4u

Then why is it that authorities in Trang reported a 100% cancellation of bookings after the blasts? Anyone out there who can provide this "minister" with a newspaper or access to unbiased international news and information from embassy websites with actual travel warnings?

Thailand, once again, tells the world, what the world is thinking about Thailand!

I'm guessing the latter is somehow connected to the former?

who writes this drivel and nonsense? There is no such word as normalcy. It's normality. Ignorance beyond belief. What else should one expect!!
