hi

I am just wondering if I will have any problems marrying a Thai lady and bring her to the UK to live?

I have £62500 in my bank as cash!

I have previously just divorced a Thai citizen

I want to bring a Thai to the UK

The Thai lady is fluent in English, and can read and write fluently in English

We plan to marry!

any opinions greatly appreciated

thanks

James

OP had you lost the plot?

Announcing you have over 60 grand in your account, and after 1 failed Thai relationship, you are starting another with a Thai woman

fluent in speaking/reading English. Then you are proposing to take her to the UK.

Wake up, wake up, take off your rose tinted glasses please.

The moment she gets to the UK  and marries you, you can say good bye to your hard earned cash.

If you just want to throw away your money, give it to me, all donations gratefully received.

Basically an applicant for UK settlement as a spouse or partner has to show that:-

  1. They and their sponsor are both 18 or over.
  2. They are married to, or if the same sex in a civil partnership with, their UK resident/citizen sponsor or if neither have been living together with their sponsor in a relationship akin to marriage for at least the two years prior to the application.
  3. Their relationship with their sponsor is genuine and subsisting.
  4. They will be adequately accommodated once in the UK without access to public funds.
  5. They meet the English language requirement.
  6. They are free from TB.
  7. The financial requirement is met.

As you say, the financial requirement can be met either by income (earned and/or unearned, minimum of £18,600 p.a. if only an adult is applying) or cash savings (minimum of £62,500 if only an adult is applying). In most, but not all, circumstances it can also be met by combining income and savings above £16,000 to reduce the amount of each required.

If meeting the requirement via savings then the money can be in the sponsor's name,  the applicant's or them both jointly. However, for the initial visa, if using income then this can be the sponsor's income only; any income, earned or unearned, the applicant has or may have once in the UK cannot be used at this stage.

Have a read of Apply to join family living permanently in the UK and Immigration Rules Appendix FM-SE: family members specified evidence.

There is a pinned topic here, as well. It's a bit out of date, but you may find it helpful.

Remember that for a marriage to be legal in the UK it must be legal in the country where it took place. A ceremonial marriage only is not a legal marriage in Thailand; to be legal the marriage must be registered at an Ampur.

See Marrying in Thailand. Note that when you go to the British Embassy to sign your affirmation of freedom to marry that you will need to take evidence that any previous marriages are legally over; i.e. previous spouse's death certificate or divorce papers.

If she's been legally married before then your wife to be will need to do the same when you go to the ampur to register the marriage.
