SADAO: -- A group of Thai Muslims have gone to police in the Sadao after they were conned out of 58 million baht by a man operating a Ponzi scheme in the area.

There are expected to be about 30 victims of the con. Many of the victims know each other, reported Sanook.

The complaint names a man called Ahama, 55, who hails from either Patani or Sadao. A Muslim himself, he approached locals intimating they would get special treatment because of their faith.

The con centers around putting up money from the mortgaging of property for the promise of good interest rates.

Rates promised were paid for a short while but after some time this stopped, the lump sums were not repaid and Ahama disappeared from the scene.

Victims had invested anything from 100,000 baht to several million.

It's 2016 and people still fall for Ponzi schemes?

what does muzzlim have to do with it….some people got conned by another guy, thats it….unnecessary way to troll.

I dare not express my heartfelt sorrow. Otherwise, I'll get banned so for once my lips are sealed :coffee1:

Because they would get special priviledges because of their faith.

Allahu Akbar

It is clearly Allah's will, move along.

I can see this turning into a muslim-bashing thread... So I'm out of here!0

That's because the Muslims got conned by an other Muslim,,,,Kind of funny.

Just using the same fairytale as the fairytale of the 72 virgins in paradise ???

.....the promise of good interest rates....

Sharia banking is not quite popular in this area then.

So the second time theyve been conned then, first by Muhammed

Why mock the ignorance of others when we have plenty of our own to address?

All over the world. Bernie Madoff jumps to mind recently for conning wealthy people out of millions of dollars......and as I write this there are probably millions being conned right now. Greed makes the shutters drop down over the brain and eyes.....easy pickings.

Not quite in the spirit of things to scam anything that moves and then cry like a baby when you get scammed yourself.

Greed.

Tsk tsk! Greedy is as greedy does! Just like the sellers of illegal goods complained in Phuket when after they paid the Mayor, the police busted them anyway!! :cheesy::cheesy::clap2::clap2::thumbsup::wai:

Damn! I do it all the time! I never stop questioning my own beliefs and perceptions, and it leaves little room to look for fault in other people.

Very easy to con thais. Again n again this sort of conning is always on the news n ppl never learn. High returns promised and the 1st few installments r always returned back with high interest to gain trust of victim. Then when victim pumps in more money n also other victims who see its easy to make some fast cash starts to throw their life savings in as well n after a few months the scammer disappears
