ISOC to withdraw troops from Deep South

  

PATTANI, 1 September 2016 (NNT) – The Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) Region 4 is preparing to withdraw its remaining battalions from the southernmost provinces to pave the way for the final stage of the peace campaign. 

Spokesperson of the ISOC Region 4, Col Pramote Promin said ISOC was about to complete its second stage of its campaign which focuses on the enhancement of local civil servants, security officials and the community sector. 

Meanwhile, the Royal Thai Army is removing its troops out of the Deep South. There remain three ad hoc battalions from Narathiwat and Yala. All of them will retreat from the region by September 30th. Defense duties will be transferred to Army Region 4 and local security units from October 1st onwards. 

Col Pramote added the third stage which is the final one entails peace promotion and sustainable development.

If these provinces were taken without just cause, then give them back and seal off that area to stop claiming more territory, which is certain cultures way of domination.

 

If these provinces were annexed with just cause, quit fooling around with this culture and kill them or moved them to Maylasia and seal off the border !

Local security units are private (aka contract) security troops who seem to be assuming greater authority in the transfer. Thus, possibly less accountability without Army oversight.

Suggest you read the history on what led to the forced annexation of the Muslim caliphate into the Kingdom of Thailand.

Been down there twice during the last 2 months on my way back from Malaysia and don't think it will make any change what kind off forces they got there as the local muslims are not very happy with the Thai government, you find a much harder line of Muslims in this area compared to the west coast (Satun province) saw many females with Burkas, not the normal head scarfs used in most other areas. 

 

The offshore natural gas and oil fields are worth a lot for Thailand so I doubt that they will give up the area.

I doubt it. Prayuth predicted he would resolve the conflict in the South by the end of last year. More fairytales as was noted by many TV posters at the time. Seems they were right. But Prayuth isn't one to worry about past failures, and to fail in the South would not make Uncle Prem happy. Also, losing (as opposed to just not winning) would be a major loss of face fo Prayuth, perhaps the first he could not get his team of professional liars to turn into a victory.

If The Thais give them back then the "Insurgents" will start niggling at the the adjoining Thai border provinces and so on. It's always the thin end of the wedge with these people in the hope that you get fed up before they do, and they never do. When you're after world dominance, what's a few hundred years?

Thanks, I have three different articles on this subject and none stated a clear reason, perhaps you know, is so enlighten me.

Been a while since I read the history of it, something about the British running around gifting land and drawing lines on maps, same way they screwed up the Middle East.

You actually refer to just cause and not to clear reason. The two terms are not necessarily synonomous or complimentary.

The events that led to the annexation of the Kingdom of Patani are historical facts. Certainly to the Kingdom of Siam the annexation was justified. For the one of the world's superpower Great Britiain the annexation was justified. For the Muslims of the Kingdom of Patani who had no say in the annexation, it was subjugation and not justified.
