September 3, 20169 yr Started at 9am to drive to BKK to our visa consultant's office. We got there at 11 due to traffic and about an hour later he told us we couldn't get married today. He was informed that the Thai government has stopped temporarily taking affirmation documents from the USA. He was warned yesterday about this problem about Indians faking their paperwork to get married and that the US affirmation document has the same wording as the Indian embassy document, that "this affirmation is not a 'guarantee' of current status..." He was told that 'not guaranteed' was the problem and that the Thai government would not honor this document for now. We started panicking at this point, but my Visa consultant called several district offices and found that this one was still allowing for the affirmation for USA. He was able to find out that the Lak Si district office in Chaeng Wattana was still allowing for this document and we finally got married yesterday...after 8 hours.
September 3, 20169 yr Not accepting USA marriage affirmation statements? This will pose a big problem for any Americans wanting to marry in Thailand in the future. I wonder how long this will last, and what if anything will be done to rectify the situation. I'm wondering if this is just another move by the powers that be to make things more awkward for aliens.
September 3, 20169 yr There was another thread here lately with the OP reporting that his local office didn't want to accept a UK free to marry certification. So whatever is going on, it's not just a U.S./Americans issue. Edited September 3, 20169 yr by TallGuyJohninBKK
September 24, 20169 yr Having been married and divorced, I wish such a problem had existed to prevent me getting married. Am I off topic- yes. Sorry.

Hard to believe there are posters on here who worship them. S & M fans probably.
