" It isn't "only in the north" and any bar/club with a 13yo patron certainly deserves to be shut down. BTW I have been to both. ah so none of the clubs you went to ever served a 13 year old who may have snuck in? I used to sneak into clubs when I was 13 in Europe and sometimes I got away with it sometimes I didn't but from your "oh so high horse" let's shut the club and put some ordinary working Thai's out of work and you REALLY believe this is about that? enjoy your smugness in Samui

I would think she would need a stiff drink after taking all those "stiff ones." Well technically and legally, nobody in Thailand is allowed to have sex for money. But Yeah! You summed it up correctly. But now add this to the equation. Voluntary Military Service in Thailand begins at 18 years of age. So in Thailand you can be in the army, meet a Go-Go Dancer or Bar Girl in a Bar ob Leave, but neither of you can have an alcoholic drink there. Seems a bit odd don't it?

It doesn't stop you from joining the army or working in a Go-Go Bar or having sex with anyone you choose or even getting married. Perhaps the government 8 years ago should have left the drinking age at 18 and been done with it. By age 18 many are finished High School and are moving away from home to University or College or getting a Full Time Job. I figure that if you are going to expect them to act like adults then you need to treat them this way. In my country the age 18 was a magical age. My government treated you like an adult then. You could drink, join the army, get married, and vote and do anything legal any other adult could do. Drinking at age 18 didn't do me any harm.

I do agree though, in my country you can leave school at 16, join the army at 16, get married at 16, but you can't drink until 18, seems daft to allow very adult things like marriage and fighting for your country but not having a drink. I think the problem in Thailand is there isn't much for your people to do, there are no under 18 clubs or discos, there is really nowhere for those outside of cities to go at night, and so they do often find themselves getting into trouble.

Yeah! At least when I was 16 years old we had Video Game Places to go to and a Pool Hall. Or a Pizza Coffee Shop Hang Out we could go to meet friends in the winter time. At 16 years old you, we also always had somebody who had a brother who was old enough, and would pull some booze for us so we could have a party at the lake. Also a time when the cps left us alone as long as we didn't cause any problems. Great Skinny Dipping Days with the Girls then to.

Why only go back 50 years? If you go back to the year 1875 to London in the UK, the age of sexual consent was between 10 and 12 years old. But in 1875 they raised this age limit to 13 years old. Hum?

The older guys would get us booze we'd get our own weed and head out to the park, empty high school stadium or just hang on the corner. When the cops rolled by we'd just kinda keep the bottles out of sight. Of course they knew exactly what we were doing When we got stopped drinking and driving the our punishment was watching the cops pour our beer out in front of us. They of course took the unopened ones and any weed they found for them selves. Ah those were the days...
