knife sharpening

Featured Replies

does anyone know where to sharpen kitchen knives in Pattaya? Mine are that dull by now that the grind stone doesn't do it anymore....

I use a wet stone like this and olive oil as a lubricant. It takes a little while to get them sharp and not much after that to keep them sharp.

You should be able to get the stone in a hardware shop.

Got one if you need to borrow a stone ( actually it is carborundum flat stone) Rainer

all it needs is elbow grease to work

I have occasionally seen knife sharpeners going around on motorbikes/sidecars here. I imagine that they also hang out in some of the markets. Soi Buakow perhaps?

Personally I use one of these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01AJIYIKU/

I paid GBP5 for it.

I bought a wet stone at the kitchen ware shop on 2nd rd opposite Pattayaland.

I would guess that the excellent new Friendship shop on Pattaya Tai would also stock them.

??????? Wherefore art thou Romeo AKA Rainer

Oh and I almost forgot musty be having a senior moment

This maybe helpful

I read somewhere that using a permanent marker on the edge makes it easier to see if you are evenly sharpening the blade.

Used these before ,  work very well,   no mess like oil stones

put an edge on in seconds. not sure of there life span. but its cheap

Never used this one, but looks ok

For a hundred baht I bought a knife sharpening gadget in Chinatown. Small thing with a suction pad that is activated by a lever. Once secured to your counter you just drag your knife through the groove in the top . Takes 2 seconds and leaves your knifes razor sharp. No skill needed. Brilliant little tool....bought on for folks back home who also found it a most excellent kitchen gadget.

thanks a lot for all the advice! Yes, I have a wet stone, but it doesn't seem to have much effect anymore. The leveling shown in the video seems to be the answer!

ok....looks like I will have something to do on the weekend....was rather looking for someone to do that for me :D

Best sharpening solution for the occasional (but not poor) user who doesn't want to spend hours and hours perfecting their technique:

I looked for years in the markets of BKK before I broke down and bought one on Lazada.  Also available on EBay, Amazon, etc.  Probably cheaper, too.
