rooster59 Posted September 9, 2016 Share Posted September 9, 2016 General Chalermchai appointed the new army strongman BANGKOK:-- General Chalermchai Sitthisart, the assistant army-commander-chief, has been appointed the new army commander-in-chief to replace General Teerachai Narkvanich who is due to retire at the end of this month. General Chalermchai is among 798 high-ranking military officers reshuffled which was announced in the Royal Gazette on Friday. The other important appointments announced include General Surapong Suwan-ath, the chief-of-staff of the armed forces, was named the new supreme commander; General Phisit Sitthisarn, army chief-of-staff, becoming the deputy army commander-in-chief; Lt-Gen Apirat Kongsompong, commander of the First Army Corp, becoming commander of the First Army Region; Lt-Gen Piyawat Narkvanich, an army advisor, becoming commander of the 4th Army Region; Maj-Gen Thammanoon Vithi, commander of the 9th Division, becoming deputy commander of the First Army Region; Maj-Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd, government spokesman, becoming a resource person of the army; and Maj-Gen Veerachon Sukonthapatipark, deputy government spokesman, becoming a resource person of the army. It sounds like a grand compromise has been made, maybe there was no option? Burupha Phayak has long marginalized the formerly dominant, and higher status, Wong Thewan faction so now may be the time to bring them back in to the fold, instead of "going to the mattresses".
