Related agencies adopt guideline to ensure safety of Prompt Pay

  

BANGKOK, 13 September 2016 (NNT) – The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) and other concerned agencies have together drawn up a guideline to secure the Prompt Pay e-payment system and raise the confidence of users. 

NBTC Secretary-General Takorn Tantasith held a discussion with representatives from the Bank of Thailand, the Thai Bankers’ Association and the Telecommunications Association of Thailand on ways to protect Prompt Pay users and boost their confidence when making financial transactions via mobile phones. In the short term, the NBTC agreed to inform mobile service providers to conduct customers’ identification as well as to observe and evaluate their own operations in a stringent manner. 

Service providers are to cooperate with commercial banks in raising awareness of Prompt Pay users on the steps to take in the event that their phone is lost, including suspending all transactions immediately and requesting a new SIM card. Once users suspend their account and have their identity verified, they will not be held accountable for any losses. 

In the meantime, commercial banks will pass on their customers’ phone numbers that are tied to the Prompt Pay system to mobile service providers in order for the latter to pay special attention to those customers’ transactions. 

The NBTC, the central bank, the Thai Bankers’ Association and the Telecommunications Association of Thailand also agreed to continue to work together in formulating measures to guarantee full protection for Prompt Pay users in the long run in support of the government’s national e-payment policy.

Agh  sure.....do they really believe that this is secure?.....no mention of their databases security...no mention of the improved systems to convince their customers......no evidence that their own personnel do not have access to customers records....

A half hearted response from the suppliers in their attempt to induce customers to pay through this system.

And in the event of a failure???
