At top, a rendering of the proposed Viman Phra In (Paradise of Indra) as presented by the Chao Phraya boardwalk design team. At bottom, a rendered image of Crystal Island as designed by British architect Norman Foster.

BANGKOK — Flames erupted over the Chao Phraya River again when one of the nation’s top architects pointed out that recently unveiled plans for a structure anchoring a controversial river redevelopment project were identical to that of a famous British architect.

In fact, architect Duangrit Bunnag said the design for the signature landmark Viman Phra In (Paradise of Indra), a monumental structure which will house a museum, came from a 3D model of architect Norman Foster’s work available free download online.

Same, same...but different.

Land of fakes!

Well why not build it first and discover in 7 years time that it MAY be illegal.

Wait a minute ... 120 million Baht for a copy? Damn I chose the wrong profession.

but but but its not the same the thai one is white and the trees are bigger, plus the sky is blue with no clouds......:w00t:

A monumental tourist attraction that will be an object of pride for the nation with a plagiarised centrepiece... Sounds about right.

And they were up in arms when a recent highrise was designed by foreigners...

Both ugly as something that rhymes with "duck"!

But I would have wondered, if we would actually get any landmark in Thailand, that is not riddled with religious and mystical BS!

Is anyone really surprised, just more plagiarism - an actual art form in Thailand.

A post containing overly derogatory comments toward Thais has been removed:

11) You will not post slurs, degrading or overly negative comments directed towards Thailand, specific locations, Thai institutions such as the judicial or law enforcement system, Thai culture, Thai people or any other group on the basis of race, nationality, religion, gender or sexual orientation.

Thais love to plagiarize and use other's intellectual property and then deny all credit. It's in the Thai DNA. Thainess if you will. And then when challenged, you can always count on a Thai plagiarist or intellectual property thief to excuse it away and blame the 0riginal author - Thais are amazing , predictable and delusional.

What's the problem?

If the British architect was hired for the project it would be illegal.

But he they didn't hire him to do the work, they just ripped off his design.

Therefore it's all perfectly acceptable.

"Good artists copy, great artists steal." - Pablo Picasso

They will claim it was designed by a foreigner when the occupation is reserved for Thai's. They will prove it by showing it has not fallen down or suffering get from structural fatigue

Most peole not know:

Even in China they have made a copy of the Chinese wall

So why worry :-)

plagiarism is the highest form of flattery. unless it is something thai being copied then compensation is required.

It's definitely not a copy. I can almost see a tied-up farang body floating down the river. No way Norman Foster had that in his original plan.

A genuine copy. Thailand is their hub.

You don't understand "Thainess"!

...just do some research and see how much of what is present has its origins elsewhere....

...but no....we have to keep pretending.....

Where did Norman Foster get his inspiration?
