Thailand to attend U.N. General Assembly on Sep 19

BANGKOK, 14 September 2016 (NNT) - A Thai delegation will be attending this year’s General Assembly of the United Nations in New York, USA.

Maj. Gen. Werachon Sukondhapatipak, deputy spokesman of the Prime Minister’s Office, said on Tuesday that Thailand will be represented at the UN General Assembly, which is scheduled for September 19, to share the country’s views on this year’s key concern — the large international movements of refugees and migrants.

The government’s deputy spokesman said that this matter is crucial to the world’s efforts to address the problem of asylum seekers and migrants while the meeting will discuss the setting up of a global agency to help handle refugees.

He said that Thailand will support all sustainable efforts to address the problems in the countries of origin and to share the global responsibility for tackling the issue.

Maj. Gen. Werachon added that, at this year’s assembly,Thailand will also take part in the ratification of the political declaration of the UN.

He went on to say that representatives of over 40 countries have already confirmed their participation in the General Assembly, including Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai of Thailand.

I won't post my feelings about this here as this is Thai soil.

country’s views on this year’s key concern, should it not be the juntas views and their military concerns.

A general assembly does not mean an assembly of generals. Just wanted to clear that up for the generals who might not be so fluent

'Just as long as you don't expect us to take any...'

Ah yes.  The UN General Assembly.

The one where tin pot dictators who would otherwise be refused admission to the USA get to go to New York.

Erm, such as Mugabe.

"Oh, how depressing, migrant workers, refugees, human rights, urgh!"

"Ow, a poor little doggy, sat by the roadside waiting for her master."

"How sad, poor dog, left there with no one to look after it. Lets go help it. Take it some food."

The world we live in.

"to share the country’s views on this year’s key concern — the large international movements of refugees and migrants. "

Are they going to present a business plan?

Here's what appears to be the playbook for refugees.

If they are Chinese and are facing execution or even if they are just trying to escape China; send em back to China.

If they are Hilltribes from Burma; put them in a camp for 30+ years and make an industry out of it.

If they are Royhinga; push em back out to sea.

If they are Cambodian or Burmese regulars; sell them to the illegal fishing industry

If they are female and attractive. Use your imagination.

Did I miss any?

At the wiff of a free lunch and the biggest and best buffet dinner in New York you can bet the Thai's will have their ticket booked  already.

I wonder what the poor people will be eating.

Well, we already know who the star of the show will be, don't we?  I can see the Thai headlines now.

Thank you, that's a major problem, generally speaking.

Remember the large audience for the PM's speach last year... :)

Can someone get in something about hot Air Marshalled and we can get back to the normal cut and thrust, cynicism and Thai bashing ? :D

White flag is flying over Stanley - you win.

Finally we get clarity as to the reason why the of military court was lifted. Window dressing before attending the UN General Assembly. Expecting military court to be re-instated at a later date.
