Woman dies in lift of burning Leather Gallery building on Srinakarin road

BANGKOK: -- A secretary to the executive of a brand-name leather product firm died after she was trapped in the lift of the building which caught fire yesterday.

Klong Tan police said the fire happened at the top floor of six-floor commercial building on Srinakarin road where Leather Gallery Co Ltd is located.

The floor was used to store the brandname leather products, St.James, Trend and Ginz, of the company.

Office employees smelled  smokes when they entered the building to work. The smokes were seen to come out from the store room on the fifth floor.

Some employees then went up with fire extinguishers to put out the fire, while the secretary of the company’s president Ms Narumol Chungratanavakul also went up the floor but used lift instead.

The fire raged quickly down the fifth floor as the secretary was still in the lift.

The lift then stopped and she was trapped inside.

most people are aware you do not get into a lift when a building is on fire, especially when it is the top floor where all the lift machinery is, the probable reason here was that the lady did not want to walk up the stairs(laziness?) and has paid for it with her life. Common sense is something missing in Thailand as many simply do not have any, the act of actually  thinking seems to be too much for them. Sorry to see this has happened but with a bit of for thought she would have been alive still, rip.

In case of fire .DO NOT USE LIFT

Don't all lifts have these notice next to them

Some don't read that which is not displayed on a smartphone...

What a horrible way to die. Baked in an oven.

:cheesy:

So sorry for her and her family

...how horrible....

Take the stairs! Get in shape! What is it with those lazy fatties who insist on taking the lift?

Horrible way to go, and I can only hope she passed out from the smoke before the fire got to her. It should, however, be common sense never to use an elevator in cases of emergency.

In a decent system when a fire is detected the lifts automatically to the ground floor. The only lift then can be used is the one for the fire brigade and you need a special key to operate it.

some one is gonna get tanned over this!!

I thought that fail safe system had been fully installed through out Thailand

Despite some of the rude comments on here, the poor lady did not deserve to die in such a horrible way just because of a naive mistake.

"A secretary to the executive of a brand-name leather product firm died after she was trapped in the lift of the building which caught fire yesterday."

With all the safety codes in place, along with ongoing updates and close inspections,  I am shocked that such a tragedy can happen in Thailand. Some foreigner must have sabotaged the elevator since it is impossible that it could be the fault, through negligence, of any Thai person, agency or government office.

Evidently not

Jaltsc, (ID16 above), was that a comment or just a repetition of the news story?

Some fairly unpleasant comments being made on this thread.

It reads that the fire was detected by employees smelling it, rather than any smoke or heat detection alarm system. Likely nothing of the sort was fitted in the store room.

Unpleasant end for the lady.

In a crisis it is common to fall back on practice and forget training...training which needs to be reinforced by drills...training she very likely never received.

Such as do not attempt to fight fire.

Evacuate.

call Professionals.

Poor woman died a horrible death so howabout some compassion until you have been there yourself.

Reading this news was as disturbing

as reading some of the comments.

R.I.P the lady

it is sad that she decided on the lift option because most places (all should) carry a notice not to use lifts during a fire.she did it perhaps under a panic attack. RIP.

sure it is disturbing. the poor lady just took the wrong option of taking the lift instead of the stairs which is the advised option in cases of fire.

possibly there was no sprinkler system or it did not trigger leading to unfortunate consequences for the poor lady.

Kindly explain where i was being "uncompassionate" i dont know the  woman and didn't comment about her or her death

I was simply stating that Getting in a lift when there is a fire is not advisable AND there are usually signs telling you not .

And getting in a lift too "Fight a fire" is certainly not a bright idea!

she no read:  in case of fire ...

how can logic be forgotten where logic does not exist?
