20 years after she warned Australia about Asians, Pauline Hanson takes aim at China investment and Muslims

Pauline Hanson’s comments about the impact of Islam and migration on Australia have received condemnation from Muslim leaders and politicians across the spectrum

CANBERRA: -- Some were shocked when the vote from Australia’s cliffhanger federal election in July finally shook out: The long-marginalised far-right party One Nation, led by Pauline Hanson, won four crucial spots in the 76-seat senate, becoming both the largest minority party behind the Greens and a significant player in the divided parliament.

Hanson wasn’t exactly new to the political scene, though she’d long been toiling on its sidelines. Back during her heyday when she first held a parliamentary seat in 1996, Hanson was notorious for bashing indigenous affairs and whipping up anti-immigrant sentiment, warning at the time that Australia was in danger of getting “swamped by Asians.”

On Wednesday - after 16 years out of parliament - she made her first speech back in the spotlight to denounce Chinese ownership of assets and warn about the impact of Islam and migration on Australia.

Hanson does not backup her claims with facts and has had to back off on a number of occasions when confronted with empirical figures countering her claims. e.g. right now Chinese investors own 0.38% of Australian agricultural land - she lies through her teeth. She constantly claims to represent the majority of Australians, whereas her party received approx 600k direct votes in the recent national elections out of a total of more than 15 million voters.

What a bizarre response to my post.

Do the Chinese really own 0.38% of Australian agricultural land ?

This from last week seems to negate that claim

But the figures appear to be very much a preliminary snapshot, compiled by the Australian Tax Office ahead of new laws that came into place on July 1, forcing companies to disclose foreign ownership amid an increasingly rancorous debate about undisclosed or hidden Chinese investment in property and agriculture in Australia. A better picture of who owns what in Australia may not emerge for another 12 months in the wake of the tougher disclosure laws, and may lead to a substantial jump in foreign holdings.

Might be best if you wait for a full disclosure before shooting off at the mouth.

And a Politician not backing up their claims and having to U-Turn is not a phenomenon that is specific to Australia, happens with Politicians all over the World.

The Oz govt managed Agricultural Land Register is the place for facts regards foreign owned land, so rather than being misinformed check it out.

Regards Hanson she's an outright liar whom the usual 'right of centre' people blindly support.

For those living on small islands, it is probably beyond their comprehension as to the size of Australia and the size of agricultural holdings in Australia. No amount of googling from afar can compensate for knowledge gained from direct experience.

You did read the entire article right? You do understand how these things are calculated right? Well, if you don't, those who take the time to read your link will understand and know that your position is baseless.

Sure, whatever you say, If the Oz Government Land Register was the best place to get facts on foreign owned land, there would have been no need to implement new disclosure laws on July 01 2016.

I have highlighted the relevant part for you.

You might also want to heed this part

Quote

Deputy prime minister and Nationals leader Barnaby Joyce welcomed the register saying “the common perception that the level of foreign ownership has been increasing seems confirmed”.

“From now on the annual reports from the land register will give us more accurate data on which to base public discussion,” he said.

Now come back in 12 months and tell me again how much China / the Chinese actually own.

She is an uneducated and ignorant ex fish and chip seller. Bigoted and racist, she claimed that there were 300 million Malaysians and 200 million Japanese all wanting to come to Australia. It's very sad to see so many like-minded posters on this forum supporting her.

Like her or loath her she seems to enjoy a large resurgence in the popularity stakes. The conservative silent majority would ensure any referendum on immigration would without doubt go her way

She is a shrewd woman with a mind for stirring up the ignorant masses.  Akin to Hitler at least.  Make no mistake about it, she has no regard for the Australian people, only for her own hip pocket and she will do and say anything that suits her purpose.

One would invite those who disagree with her stance on immigration to visit the city of Leicester (among others) in the UK. One could be forgiven in thinking one was in downtown Lahore.  The very reason why so many Brits feel like visitors in their own country.

Putting to one side your vulgar, tasteless and incorrect comments, one would do well to contain your apparent desire for uncontrolled Islamic migration.
