Its funny how the nice plastic chairs from last year disappeared to be replaced by hard wooden stools to park my butt on for 5 hours. I guess they are trying to tell me at my advanced age to get an agent which I will never do.  

Your essay (rant) is worthy of a reply even though, like you, I can be a grumpy old fart at times. Had you prefaced your rant with the fact that you had a shitty day at C.M. Immigration, I would have better understood. I am not sure which paragraph of your essay to address first, but lets try sports.
People have participated in sports of one kind or another for at least two thousand years, hence the bizarre Olympic sports of discus, javelin and hammer throw.  Gladiatorial events at Roman arenas were opportunities to witness men being killed by an opponent for the entertainment of the masses , similar to what we saw in the movie ,Gladiator. People need sports to take their minds

off the humdrum daily lives that many live. I personally don't try to rationalize the businesses of Nike, Umbro, Puma and Adidas. If people want to spend their pocket money on a shirt representing their home team, so be it. Your reference to " ...overly skinny long haired fleet of foot over paid full of testosterone young males" might have applied to the Premier leagues of Europe and South America for example, but does not consider the millions of young men and women in poorer countries who engage in the sport for the pure joy of it. I would love to be a skinny,  testosterone filled, long legged footballer again.

It is not only top end football, but Formula 1 motor racing with its own billionaires and the other sports that attract top stars, like golf and tennis. I haven't even mentioned the millions of Americans and Canadians who enjoy their version of football and ice hockey along with baseball, neither the legions of people that enjoy that quaint English game known as cwicket which has been enjoyed by millions across what was once the " Bwitish Empah ". Sport has healed the racial divide in a way unseen before.

There will always be some troublemakers wherever one goes, but for the vast majority of people, sports is a much more desirable way to let off steam than having a good old war once in a while. After all, the Germans and the Allies managed to stop shelling the crap out of each other 100 years ago in the trenches in order to kick an air filled leather ball around in the mud for a few minutes.

So, I recommend you loosen up a bit and enjoy a game of chess.

I hope you get better chairs on your next visit to the Immigration boys..

Football, by its very definition is a game invented by the English where the ball can only be hit using feet, body or head but not hands and arms. 

Rugby is a game invented by the English for guys who thought sissies played football. Aussie rules is for those who cannot make up their minds.

You're right.  It was invented for that very reason.  It's like a licence for otherwise fairly OK IQ adults to speak about something totally pointless all the time,  taking up all their time.  There's people I've known who lose sleep over football.  I don't mind watching a bit of sport,  but I simply could never get that caught up in it for it to dominate my life.
