Penang – A Good Dentist? - Any Atm’s?

Hi All

I’m due to go to Penang next month for a visa. With all fuss about the new regulations I’m not sure how long I may be there so thought it would be a good chance to catch up on some long neglected personal servicing.

I need to get a new eye test and have seen some opticians on previous visits and know for sure there is at least one in the Komtar center but I don’t remember seeing a dentist. So anyone know of a dentist in Panang?? Good? Bad? Expensive?

Any experience with optician and dental prices compared to Thailand?

It’s been over a year since I was last in Penang and I don’t remember seeing any ATM machines. At that time I was not really looking so may have just missed them. To save taking too much cash are there any ATM’s in Panang and what is their location. I normally stay round the Chinatown area so any round there would be good.

Just as a thought, if I’m stuck for a while any experience of cheap budget places to stay on the beach?

I dont know about dentists in Penang,

There are definetly ATMs, but quite scarce,

Was there last month and had no problems. Used 2 atm's. One near the Eastern & Oriental hotel and the other in a shopping plaza. Stayed at the Paramount, small chinese run hotel bout 2km back on the one way system from the E&O Hotel. 50 Ringet for fan room with slightly obscured view of the sea. Air con rooms have no sea view.

Was on a bike so had no worries getting around otherwise the Paramount would be in the middle of nowhere

The Best ATM is Maybank. Never had a problem. One at Kontar near the post office and another is just behind Hotel Continental, beside the Irish Bar.

I found a decent "motel", reasonably priced, on Ferrenghi Beach which is located in the restaurant with the dolphin statues on the left coming in from Georgetown. Called "Popular Ferrenghi" Also there is some guest houses around but none so near to the beach which is only over the road.

Another option on Batu Ferrenghi is Sri Sayang Resort Service Apartment, nice one bedroom apartments with fantastic views for daily, weekly etc. probaby the best value.
