Retirement requirement confusion

As an Aussie I was advised that I could get a stat dec signed at the Australian embassy stating my income in Australia, this would suffice for the part of retirement requirement that says you must have 800,000 bht in Thai bank account or equivalent in income or a combination of both. When I went to Jomtien immigration I was told quite abruptly that I could only use the pension part of my income and no other income is allowed.

 I would appreciate some clarification on this as I have friends who have received a retirement visa based on total income, has this rule changed recently?

The requirement is 65k per month income (nothing to do with 800k unless you are using a bank account deposit as method for extension).

 

The income is what is stated on Embassy letter.

The statutory declaration can only be usedto prove the 65k baht income requirement or the portion needed to combine with money in a Thai bank totaling 800k baht. Any income earned outside of Thailand can be used.

You need a letter form a Thai bank to prove 800k baht or the amount needed to reach 800k baht if using the combination option. You also copy of your updated bank book to show the funds have been the bank for 2 months for the first extension or 3 months after that.

There has been no rule change and any certified income is usually allowed, but there is no guideline that specifies exactly what is and isn't allowed.

I don't know how the Australian Embassy certification works, but maybe you could get a new letter that doesn't breakdown your income sources and simply states a total income of $x.

on my stat dec I declared total income of $35,670 which equates to 927,000 Bht when I showed this at Jomtien Immigration I was told only the Australian pension part of my income can be considered and no other income is allowed.

They were wrong. There is no rule that states it can only be a pension.

I suspect you statutory declaration had to much info on it.

All you need is a statement that your monthly income is an amount greater than 65k baht a month in Australian dollars.

For example this is how it is written on a income affidavit at the US embassy.

Yess - but if he's to provide proof that the Affidavit is true won't he get the same answer if that is that Immi office's Policy?

  As is becoming increasingly widespread Police Orders are not uniformly applied throughout the Kingdom.

How do they know how much of the $35,670 is pension income?

Not sure it is local policy in this case. It may of just been the officer reviewing his documents. He does say how far he got in the process. It could of been something that could of been resolved by asking for the supervisor.

I have seen no reports of Jomtien asking for back up proof. Very few offices ask for it. The best proof is a bank book showing regular transfers into the country.
