BANGKOK, 16 September 2016 (NNT) - The Ministry of Public Health is planning to revive the Public Health Act 1992, hoping to motivate people to destroy Aedes larvae in their own homes.

Public Health Minister Dr. Piyasakol Sakolsattayathorn is scheduled to meet with his ASEAN counterparts on Monday, September 19th, in an attempt to stop a Zika virus outbreak. He added Section 72 of the Public Health Act 1992, which makes having Aedes mosquito breeding grounds in a house punishable by law, will be exercised to contain the infection.

Offenders could face a maximum fine of 5,000 baht. The Public Health Minister further stated that the Zika virus outbreak in South East Asia, including Thailand, is milder than that of Brazil.

There are currently 279 patients in Thailand and there are 23 new cases this month. Dr. Piyasakol reiterated that the Ministry of Public Health never concealed any information from the public, but instead provided what it considered essential information to encourage people to protect themselves against dengue fever and Zika virus.

Not much hope for this when you often see landowners leaving their empty plots overgrown with weeds and plants, or filled with garbage...

Thai society does not hold its members to social responsibility...

If the morons put in proper drainage then a lot of the water would not be there stagnant waiting for the mossies to breed

Use your loaf. Get the spellcheck out  :cheesy:

Probably not "concealed," but certainly omitted, downplayed and blatantly lied.

Dr Amnuay [said] that Zika infection which used to affect 16 provinces has now reduced to six provinces without any new cases.

Dr. Piyasakol said infections of Zika have only been found in Chantaburi, Petchabun, Bueng Kan and Chiang Mai with most patients already past a 28 day monitoring period and a general warning already lifted.

The spokesman said Thai public health officials have detected Zika virus cases just small in numbers. These cases were concentrated only in some areas and did not spread extensively as feared.

Nope, you've been completely open and up front about the whole thing...

THHe Aedes mozzie mostly breeds around houses in tiny puddles - e.g flowerpots, tire etc. They need remarkably little water and only a slight rise to get the eggs to hatch.

In other countries they have patrols to get rid of potential Aedes breeding sites in private houses - e.g. you must have fish in any standing water....

Crumbs !  must remember to clear off the counter top after making a sarnie.
