Questions about US K1 visa, my income tax history...

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, I am going through the K1 process now.  I lived in Thailand from July 2011 - November 2015, I came back to the US to begin the process for the K1 visa.  I did not file taxes while I was away, but I do owe the IRS from the year before I left for Thailand.  Can anyone help me to understand what I am going to need to do in order to help this not cause any problems with my visa petition?  Can I set up payments and fix this?  What about if I get a sponsor other than me?  Any help is greatly appreciated.

First off, you should get straight with IRS over your 2010 tax year.

Don't know about your non-filing with IRS for the time you were here in Thailand, reckon IRS will also be asking about that and looking closely at your answer.

There's more info if you do a Google for:  irs late filing

But, does look like you'll be facing a penalty and perhaps fine for the late filing.

This is probably a separate issue from your K1, and, yes, you can ask family or friends to help out by filing the affidavit of support.
