BANGKOK: -- Deputy Prime Minister Wisanu Krea-ngarm hit back at critics who alleged that the government invoked Section 44 of the interim constitution to seize the assets of individuals faulted for cheating in connection with the rice pledging scheme of the previous Yingluck administration.

 

The criticism amounted to gross distortion of fact, he said, adding that, as a matter of fact, the B.E. 2539 act regarding liability for wrongful acts was used to deal with the officials and politicians involved in the non-existent G-to-G rice deals.

 

The deputy prime minister insisted that the law had been used many times before on several cases, including the City Hall’s scandalous fire truck and boat deal.
