ASEAN commends Thailand for anti-transboundary haze efforts

BANGKOK, 23 September 2016 (NNT) - The Pollution Control Department is moving ahead with the ASEAN Transboundary Haze Free Roadmap to eradicate haze from the region by the year 2020.

Director-General of the Department of Pollution Control Wicharn Simachaya said environmental ministers from the ASEAN member countries praised and thanked Thailand for doing its best in tackling the problem of transboundary haze in a sustainable manner. The ministers voiced their agreement with the roadmap and said they would cooperate to achieve goals in the roadmap.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha introduced the roadmap in his speech at the 26th and 27th ASEAN Summits.

Thailand and Myanmar has cooperated on environmental conservation with Thailand providing support for Myanmar in terms of wildfire control.

The department will host the 6th Greater Mekong Subregion Ministerial Meeting on the Environment on pollution from transboundary haze at the end of this year.

Does "tackling the problem in a sustainable manner" mean that the problem remains but the "tackling" can go on indefinitely?

More propaganda heavy on alleged praise but light on actual details of efforts...

I'd like to see the transcript of the actual conversations of environmental ministers from the ASEAN member countries praising and thanking Thailand.

Just before New Year's Eve 2019 or just after new year 2020, an extension will be granted to continue the 'great successes and targets already achieved' up to that point.

Basically they'll have done nothing, as usual.

Its always good for a chuckle to read these stories, 'cos that's what they are - stories.

Must be a slow day on the news front.
