visa expires on a week-end can i wait til monday

Featured Replies

i have a visa exempt expiring 10-8, saturday. i plan going to savanakhet to get a tvse, the question is can i wait til monday to go out and not get charged two days overstay, or should i do it before my visa runs out. i don' want to go friday and wait the week-end to pick it up monday. heard if imm. office closed day visa runs out no penalty for overstay. just like to get a conformation if correct. thanks

You will be charged with overstay.

Have you done your 30 day extension at Immigration?

You will charged 500 baht a day for an overstay. Leaving on Monday would be 1000 baht.

Leaving the country is not the same as applying for an extension at an immigration office since you can leave the country every day of the year.

You can apply for a 30 day extension of your visa exempt entry at an immigration office for a fee of 1900 baht.

Would always avoid overstay no matter how short or convenient; you don't want that big ugly red stamp in your passport, esp if you intend on staying on.

thanks for the quick reply. i'll just go earlier thursday and friday. years ago if you left on a week-end they were a little lenient, but that was also from airport.

The airport is still lenient on one-day overstays. You get fined for two days or more.

I fully agree. I believe, It's a better way to not have even one day overstay. Keep your papers white.
