College grad 3 1/2 month visit

Featured Replies

A USA 2016 December college grad will visit my Thai wife and I in Mukdahan, Thailand (2nd week January with a return of May 1st).  As we return late February to the states, she will join a US doctor and wife a bit east of Bangkok who have work visas.  The student will not work or volunteer, but will visit with the family and possibly observe occasionally in the doctor's clinic as she wants to become a doctor, and maybe even serve in Thailand some day.  :)

We want to help her find the best way to do this.  Wondering if a 60 day TR visa would work?  Would it help if she could cross to Savannakhet and get another 60 day TR.

I doubt she could meet the $7,000 six month requirement for a METV but don't know for sure.

You all helped so much for me this week, and here is another opportunity!

Looking for a solution.

Based on your post there is nothing to stop her staying here as a Tourist.

  • A SETV will give 60 days on entry and can be extended at Immigration by 30 days for 1,900 baht. At the end of the 90 days she could exit (not all borders) and immediately re-enter under the Visa Exempt scheme. She would get permission to stay for anther 30 days. Same day visa runs are available from Bangkok to Cambodia.
  • Alternatively, she could enter with a SETV and at the end of 60 days travel to a This Embassy/Consulate in a neighbouring country for a second SETV and another 60 days.
