BANGKOK: -- The case of the passport forgery gang caught with a cut up body in the freezer continues to captivate the public but there are still far more questions than answers in the case.

Met police commissioner Sanit Mahathavorn faced many reporters questions on Wednesday at Phrakhanong police station near where the three foreign men were arrested Friday after the raid on a business premises in Soi 56.

There was little new in the press conference though Sanit clearly knows more than he is letting on at this stage as investigations continue.

As if to highlight the confusion in the case a suspect originally referred to by first names of "William Peter" then renamed more definitively as "Herbert Craig" could now be "Charlie Edward". Police said he was a Vietnam war veteran.

The main problem for investigators is that the three suspects are giving virtually nothing away.

Sanit said that one of the suspects became visibly agitated when a certain country was mentioned in his presence - but the country was not mentioned leaving reporters guessing.

Here are the latest developments:

Fingerprints taken from the corpse found cut into six pieces in the freezer are being circulated to all embassies in a bid to identify the victim.

A 3D cat scan of the victim indicates it was a European male aged 40 -45.

There was no evidence of unusual substances found in the body tissues and all innards were intact. Police think that the victim died from a wound to the neck.

The head was cut off and the join to the neck is not a perfect fit as are other areas where the body has been cut up.

"William Peter Johnson" who was named as possibly Herbert Craig La Fon, 66, could also be Charlie Edward Daitel (surname transliterated from Thai reports).

Thairath said that he is a Vietnam war veteran.

Police are looking for a Thai woman called Thanyarat Singkhorn-art who was looking after Robert Logan Grundy, 65, at "William Peter" 's Ekamai Soi 12 rented property. Grundy was reportedly taken for cremation to a Huay Kwang temple after dying from cancer in March.

Commissioner Sanit said that one of the three suspects is bound to know about the corpse in the freezer.

The idea that one was romantically linked to the corpse is just a theory but is based on the opinion given by psychologists that in most similar cases a corpse would be disposed of if it was plain murder.

The fact that the corpse was stored in this way indicates that whoever kept the corpse was close to the victim and didn't want to 'let them go".

He said that he had personally interviewed the Burmese maid who was working at the Soi 56 premises.

He intimated that she was a reliable witness but that there remained inconsistences with her evidence and the facts of the case.

He said that the forensic evidence and witness statements seems to indicate that the person in the freezer died about 2008.
