I googled arround on diving and Koh Phangan, but I only find very expensive shops.

Are there some fair priced shops? Normaly Thai shops charge arround 1000 Baht for a boat trip with 2 dives while what I found on the internet is arround 2500 Baht.

I think 1000Baht for 2 boat dives sounds a tad cheap to me ... on Koh Tao (which is just north of Koh Phangan) the dive prices vary .. the more dives you make the cheaper it gets per dive and prices start at 1000Baht for 1 dive down to 700Baht per dive if you make 10 or more dives during your time on Koh Tao.

The advantage with Koh Tao is that the dive sites are all very close to the island so the dive boats can visit 2 dive sites in the morning and then visit 2 more dive sites in the afternoon ... lots of opportunity to get wet ... :o

1000 is what Thai people pay for Divemaster, equipment, boot, 2 dives and lunch. I happily pay 1500-1800. But not that 2500 (or 1000 from close to the beach which should be arround 200-400 Baht).

I found Lotus Dive. But their contact form does not work.

Does anyone know their emailadress?

They are based in Chaloklum and are a good choice if you are staying in that area.

Koh Phangan only has one decent dive site, sail rock. Apart from a few shore dive sites the rest are on Koh Tao. They usually go them on speedboat (unless Sail Rock) and do the dives, back to Koh Phangan for late afternoon.

Prices on Koh Tao used to be 1800 for two dives plus all the gear, DM / Instr. Usually it would be a day tripper dive boat which is more comfortable but slower.

For Koh Phangan it may be more as speedboats tend to charge a premium. 1000 Baht for 2 dives? They may hit you for gear rental charges if thats the case and other hidden extras. Some may give you discounted prices on bungalows.

Theres only one way to dive on the cheap, and thats if you work in the dive industry! :o

yes the 1000 is without gear (but I have my own equipment :D ), and of course the DM does not speak english and not always certified. That most dive locations are more far explains the higher costs.

What are the shore dive sites there? Maybe I just rent a tank.

Hi H90

If you come to Koh Pha Ngan you should also get in touch with Haad Yao Divers and Fun Factory, they are both professional set ups who arrange dive trips to Ang THong, Sail Rock, Chumpon Pinnacles, Koh Tao.

I have heard people speak highly of the above two schools

Good luck and enjoy
