BANGKOK, 2 October 2016 (NNT) - The Constitution Drafting Commission (CDC) has reassured that individuals found guilty of election fraud will get a lifetime political ban.

Responding to the Election Commission (EC)’s proposal regarding the election law, CDC chairperson Meechai Ruchuphan said politicians caught cheating in election will get a lifetime ban from politics.

When asked about rumors that Supachai Somcharoen will resign as EC chairman, Meechai said the draft constitution which received support from the majority of the public in the nationwide referendum states that head of the Election Commission will no longer sit as election commissioner if he or she decides to quit as chairman.

Meechai also confirmed that the drafting team will finish writing all organic acts in an 8-month time frame while voicing that the general election date will be decided by the electoral body.

A lifetime ban from political activity eh?

That 'll be a jolly useful addition to the toolbox to make sure that the right sort of people end up in power!

Who will decide guilt, and how "transparent" will the adjudication process be?

Hijack elections? Who needs to do that when you have guns, tanks, and you've permitted, nay, ordered by 'invisible forces'?

What is election fraud in Thailand?

Illegally seizing control with guns, granting yourself and cronies a blanket amnesty, then spending the the next decade pretending to be legitimate while screwing the economy and sending the country backwards in almost every metric imaginable isn't, apparently, but I'm not sure what is.

I'm certain the junta-huggers will be along soon to tell us. (Hint: Thaksin, Yingluck, PTP)

Election fraud. Interesting. I suppose when our newly "elected" village chief paid 2/3 of the residents for their vote - then got elected - does not qualify (in Thailand) as election fraud.

Whatever who is in power at the time says it is I would think and as ever enforcement will be highly selective.

Refreshing!.......In just a mere 20 years there will be no cheaters!

It takes 20 years to build sophistication. It will be refined by then and on a par with the cheaters in Western society. The days of the blatant cheater is coming to an end. Well then maybe not.

No need!. These are good people chosen by the same faction that has graciously relived Thailand of bothersome, elected governments on several occasions. For purely altruistic reasons, mind you!

Power struggle, you say?? Nope. Since Thailand became SO much better after each coup it's clear for all that these guys only want what is best for Thailand.

Right?
