BANGKOK, 3 October 2016 (NNT) - The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has moved forward with its street clearing policy at Pratunam Market, as part of the city’s public landscaping policy to return sidewalk space to pedestrians.

Approximately 50 vendors at Pratunam Market had gathered to protest the policy. They offered a counter proposal of reorganizing the market with clearly designated vendor and walking areas. The vendors argued that the market is a famous tourist attraction for Bangkok and has long generate income for the country.

The BMA plans to conduct maintenance on the market’s streets, plant trees and repaint sidewalks to facilitate better pedestrian traffic.

Actually the vendors are right. They are an important part of Bangkoks face. People travel here because Bangkok is a bustling city. Full of live.

Now the authorities are going to stop that.

They act against their own people.

Not so smart...

They don't care. They only stay under controlled environments and do not walk or enjoy the streets. The are bighting the Thai hands that feed them, not the other way around. Ruining the wonders everyone loves of Thailand at the speed of light.

Ruining the wonders ! of Pratunam ?  I think that some of the narrower streets should be a bit more controlled as it is crazy getting down some of them with vendors moving huge loads through and motorbikes where there is just room for pedestrians.

To get rid of the market completely would be crazy. Whenever I am in BKK I go there to buy gifts for friends. (ok Im a cheapskate) but who cares.

Keep the market the Sunday one is crazy

Walk a few meters down one of the alleyways and you will see a bazaar that could easily accommodate the nuisance vendors from the pavement.  Tourists could go down there if they want to shop or they could walk on the pavement if they want to walk, and in fact will still be able to buy things on the pavement from the endless line of shophouses all along the road.

You are wrong. People cannot buy the same things when the vendors are forced to move away. It seems you never had a look what kind of shops you find there. They do not offer the same.

And did the market vendors ever made it impossible for you to walk along the pavement? Did you ever stumble over things they offer?

I simply want to understand why some narrow minded people feel disturbed by by these sellers...

Having been there hundreds of times I cannot remember a single time anything disturbed or caused a delay or has been dangerous or any thing like that...

You should move to KL. There you have empty, boring and sad pavements.
